@@politicalbandwagon4989 Umm...no thank-you. Hart has his moments, but I'm still not convinced he will ever be a top-10 NHL goalie. I'm not saying Montreal doesn't need to find a solution to their goalie problem - Allen is a stop-gap at best (as a starter), and Montembeault, while a really good backup, can't handle a full goalie load of 55-65 games - but Hart is not the answer. If I was in Hughes' shoes, I think I'd probably try to get Lankinen and Monty as a 1A and 1B. They're both decent goaltenders, and once our rookie defensemen get a couple years of experience, neither would have to play out of their mind to get the W. And if Lankinen is too expensive (he is, after all, putting on a pretty good show this year - if he shows that he can perform at this level playing 35+ games, a few teams will offer him starting-goalie money this summer, driving up his value due to teams trying to out-bid each other) keeping Allen for the duration of his contract and adding Vejmelka as a rental in February of 2024 would also be a solution, as Monty's contract is up in June 2024, while Vejmelka is under contract for 2024-25 (ensuring that Montreal wouldn't have to find a goalie in the summer of 2024). I actually see Vejmelka as one of the better goalies in the league already...playing for Arizona sometimes makes his stats look unimpressive, but he has kept that team in games they had NO BUSINESS being in. He would definitely be a welcome addition to the Habs. He and Allen could be a 1A and 1B, and hopefully the Habs could extend him after 2025 (if he played well).

Don't look now but it was Marc Bergevin who traded Patches for Suzuki - and it was also Bergevin who drafted Cole Caufield and Kaiden Guhle as well as drafting Joshua Roy and Sean Farrell. Bergevin also signed Arber Xhekaj as unsigned free agent. I'm not a Bergevin fan as he prioritized grit over skill but he definitely did some goods things and left that Habs with a well stocked cupboard. Your assessment is not fair - Give credit where it's due.
