To anyone that’s planning on visiting, try to avoid driving on highway 163, which is the road that leads here, after dark. In the 2 nights I was there we came across 2 drunk driving accidents, 1 of which was pretty bad. We talked to a local at the scene who said that it’s a problem there and that her sister had been killed just a few weeks prior. Don’t take this as me saying you should not visit, cause it is a must see place that I will return to. You should be fine driving in the day time, just be aware and careful at night especially on weekends.

Result of stubborn sandstone that refused to erode while the rest of the earth around it eroded. It's why we have those really unique shapes, the water and ice also helped carve out some of the distinctive monuments.

Great video! In relation to the Navajo code talkers, there’s a Burger King in Kayenta about 30 minutes south of here that has an excellent exhibit with a lot of American and Japanese ww2 artifacts. They have things like mortar shells, grenades, and regimental flags on display. It’s really well done, and yes it’s actually inside the Burger King.

Monument Valley is located on the Arizona side. However, you can view it coming from the Utah side is where people take most pictures that shows a straight highway pointing to Monument Valley. On the Utah side, there's a BLM called Valley of Gods which is worth the visit as well. Also check out the Mexican Hat on the Utah side.

We were at Monument Valley in June this year. We went on the Navajo guided tour which was totally worth it as it took us beyond the public road and we had more descriptive explanations for the names of the landmarks and of the sacred beliefs around them. We’d highly recommend the tour and we did the sunset tour. We stayed at the Premium View Cabins (5 minutes from the view hotel) with a balcony view of the valley and mittens. We booked a year in advance for a front row cabin. It’s a must-do.

WARNING! My wife and I took the 17-mile loop on the tour truck on 9/30/23. The dirt path was very different from the smooth path seen in this video. I believe the area must have been hit with large monsoonal storms washing away most of the gravel and leaving hard stone and potholes. We are both suffering from sore backs 4 days later. I am sure they will add gravel during the off-season, but be warned the trip we took was not enjoyable.

Maybe everyone making videos like this is based in areas where the seasons naturally lead them to places like this, at a natural vacation time when the temps and weather are making them wish to get away from home, and conditions are most comfortable at the destination / video location. Please post the date range of when filming takes place. It may seem obvious to you, but for many of us in the frozen north of of MN who vacation in the summertime, when I start heading west & south I talk to people going the opposite direction and find out they are fleeing the unbearable & oppressive conditions. By the time I get to a destination everyone has fled.
