$600 for the Moog unit built in Taiwan…..what was the acquisition for? It clearly wasn’t to reduce cost to the consumer or to expand access to more people. I bought the Mother32 and the Subharmonicon at the $600ish price point and partially excused it because of the fact they were built in Asheville. This unit has a filter bank and one VCO lol. It’s a shame……..let’s hope for a better future.

Moog is a disaster…they should enter eurorack realm…copy Matriarch filter and delay at least and turn these into eurorack modules. Also Animoog and model 15 vsts are missing. Thanks for the video. I do have to agree with others that the complaints that it’s not great by itself is somewhat unfair though. It’s an analog vocoder and filter bank - of course you need other instruments. If you bought a standalone filter (eurorack or otherwise), would you complain that you need other instruments? You could have tried it with your other gear to show off some of the features? (Hope that will come in part 2) Also the fact that it doesn’t come with a microphone - that is clear when you buy it. Also a relatively decent diaphragm gooseneck mic costs about €100, so the price would be even higher if they included it and half the users wouldn’t need one. On cost - it’s a resonant filter bank - those take a lot to make and therefore have an appropriate cost. Agree that I’m also disappointed that assembly has moved and the whole fallout from the takeover - but that doesn’t mean it only costs $20 to make it and the rest is profit. The profit margin is probably still super thin. This is also probably one of the cheapest analog vocoders out there. Looking forward to part 2 though! 🙂

One thing I've found with mine that really helps vocoder intelligibility is adding a little inline mixer to mix the Program output with the VCA output, that way you can add just a touch of your original voice to the vocoded signal. I use a 'Splix' but there are a lot of other possibilities. Good review though, I like mine but that's because I have a ton of gear to use it with. This is definitely not for beginners or people who just want to sound like a robot!

From the sound demos I've heard, it can do really cool sounds (although the vocoder sounds very incomprehensible), but it's really just a fancy effects pedal in a eurorack case. It can do faaaar less than the other Moog semi-modulars, so putting them at the same price of 600$ feels really greedy, especially since they moved production to Taiwan. I don't really see myself getting one of these, unless a used one comes by for a considerably lower price.

lol this is a niche-ass synth at a pretty damn affordable price. @@Tiger.Arcade It's just a marketing problem then. This shouldn't be your first and only synth. I think that's clear and it's fine to make products like that. People complaining about the cost and where it’s manufactured (btw, it’s being assembled now where the boards were ALWAYS made) need to look at how much a Filter Bank cost. The ones that are cheaper than this are fixed filter banks with less filters. The ones that cost more than this have more bands but also tend to not shift the frequencies nor have a built in oscillator. It’s very clear some of y’all have no idea what type of product this is and how much competing products cost lol. $600 is actually very reasonable when there are similar things to this going for $1000 in eurorack.
