I honestly expected more after this... Kevin literally got with a woman and had a child. I thought the movie would delve more into his internal struggle with his own sexuality. Now here comes Chiron telling him he's only ever thought of him since they parted, and next second Kevin's completely accepted it. Too easy...

Yes exactly.. its one reason why the film would of been a worthy Best Sound Oscar nominee imo, as odd as im sure that sounds to some people.. we usually think of sound design (and whats awarded for it) in terms of what is loudest, what had “the most” sound so to speak, but films are supposed to be nominated not just for succeeding with a technically difficult sound mix, but also for the artistic choices that were made in the sound design (such as introducing the sound of the beach in the scene above). I also think the very quiet and subtle way this scene introduces the score is similarly another example of savvy artistic choices on the part of the sound mixer and director (on top of being a strong score). This movie though had smart artistic decisions in technical craft across the board from already mentioned score, to the cinematography, to the editing (all of which were recognized with Oscar nominations).

The last shot of Chiron and Kevin is so fucking powerful. It shows so much about both of them. This whole chapter of the movie, they were putting up an act. Everything that happened to Chiron culminated to this one definitive moment. Confronting Kevin and finally telling him "you're the only man that's ever touched me". There's a double entendre there. He means it literally and figuratively. And the part that made it perfect was the look Kevin gives him. That little smile was like a sigh of relief. The look that says "I'm proud of you" more than words than say. He had to have been so glad that Chiron was able to come to terms with who he really is. It was what Kevin was trying to bring out of him since they were kids. Couldn't have been a more perfect ending than this one. This movie gives you the right amount of emotion without being crass or pretentious. Everything was done with taste. A riveting, beautiful, powerful film.

I thought Kevin's look, before the smile, was heartbreak at the realization that Chiron had been a prisoner in his own skin all of those years. I just don't think it was a look of pride, but realization that Chiron, even as grown and sexy as he appears there, is still that painfully shy and repressed little boy that he knew in grade school. It's a shocking revelation. The smile was to bring comfort to Chiron, imo. Either way, it is an utterly heart-wrenching masterpiece.

Him turning at the camera at the end is finally him embracing Juan’s words in the house one day “Don’t sit with your face turned against the door. Then you won’t know who’s coming in and what’s going on.” Little looking at the audience at the end is taking Juan’s words, embracing the fact that anyone can come into his life now. When Kevin smiled back at him and Chiron expressed himself, he finally felt free and himself, and which is why the camera cut to little on the beach signifying that this is will Chiron will be from now on...somewhere where he’s finally free and himself. So much is asked of Trevante Rhodes here, yet he somehow manages to perfectly deliver one of the most impactful final lines in modern cinematic history. The story of this man's entire life, and here is the moment, right at the closing of the film, where he does the bravest thing any human can ever do - he finally reveals himself with total vulnerability to another human being. Depsite everything he's been through forcing him to keep a barrier up. The bravery of the character to do that. The skill of the actors, director, writer, cinematographer, and the rest of the creative team, to express it like this on the screen. Outstanding.

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a movie theater was this film. There was a group of Black men and women together (probably a date night) and they laughed at the following scenes: - when Chiron asks if he’s the f word - the dream Chiron has of his friend - right after Chiron says “You’re the only man that’s touched me Your heart has to be black as coal if you found any of those scenes funny. I’m a former Marine (now retired) and this movie makes me cry every damn time, without fail.

This movie is about two people finding themselves and finding happiness after a lifetime of hardship and a struggle with their identity. Quite easily one of the best final lines in all of cinema. There's no real sense of finality or sense of importance to them, and that's what makes them so damned powerful. Despite it feeling like the film ends mid-conversation, those words give all the closure the audience needs while feeling wholly real and authentic.

He came in looking muscled-up and gangsta-rapper sexy. But he soon realized he was still the shy Chiron he loved since they were kids. Especially when he asked him where he was staying. The love had always been there. But they had grown to the point of being able to admit to it.

After reaching this last video which to my sense is the last I just have to say that just by watching the key parts of the movie that it was extremely powerful in many ways. I’m not too big on cinematography, paying attention to each detail but it was easy to tell how important each moment factors into the main character which to me is absolutely beautiful. The sadness is from the realization that he repressed his homosexuality and had foregone any intimacy and affection since that one time when he was young boy with Kevin on the beach.

O sorriso que o Kevin deu ao final da confissão do Black não foi malicioso ou desdenhoso...foi puro...foi o fato de ele ter se aberto...deixado pra trás tudo e abraçado a nova vida....

Trevante Rhodes who plays older Chiron says... I think about love on a scale from 1 to 10. Most of us find a 6 or a 7, and that’s why we have divorce. It’s the truth. We settle for that 6 or 7. But I like to think Kevin is Chiron’s 10. He’s found that and he realizes that there’s no reason to settle for a 6 or a 7 because, “I know this person is my 10. Whether or not this person believes I’m his 10, I’m going to devote my life to this person entirely.” That’s why the line where he says, “You’re the only man that’s ever touched me,” for me, was the most amazing, most beautiful thing I’ve seen in cinema, period. Because that’s what we strive for as people, to find that one person because they’re there. If Kevin doesn’t feel that they should be together, Chiron is just going to die a miserable person because that’s his person and he won’t settle for anything else. But I like to think they’re together, walking in Central Park hand-in-hand when they’re 90 years old.

I've seen myself some great amount of films that had triggered in me very deep emotions by many great directors, but this scene, this climax nothing could prepare me for this, the greatest climax I'd seen in a film so perfect that everything comes together in this monumental moment , that I had to pause the film while watching because I had to take it all in , put myself together , let myself know that in the next few minutes I will be watching something so deep and intense that I will be remembering and lingering to that feeling for a long time.

Until that moment, I quite liked the movie, but didn't feel it. I didn't understand, why Moonlight was seen as a masterpiece. Then this scene comes and I am thinking "This is so beautiful... the movie should stop right now with this absolute perfect moment... but they would never do th.... HOLY FUCK, THEY DID IT! THEY ENDED THE MOVIE AT THE RIGHT TIME, THE ABSOLUTE PERFECT MOMENT!!!" It evaluated the whole film for me from "good" to "masterpiece".
