What a tremendous experience! Very few people get that close to a humpback. They're really just incredible! Every place you've go in the South Pacific is a paradise in it's own way.

Just gets better and better. I was wondering if Yoda was so ready to battle the tuna -- so she could eat him. What did she think about the whales? And then the cows? I heard this tiny voice chirp, "Burgers!"

It is so wonderful that you had such great experiences with the whales and marine life in Moorwa. I'm so glad you got to have this experience. Your diving footage was spectacular. It must have been fantastic to be able to swim with so many whales and turtles. When you are looking forward for the whales in the dingy, you could try to kneel on one of the inflatable side with one leg standing in the dingy - hold a rope from the bow to aid stability. Once you spot the whales, you can zoom up to the drop off point whilst laying down on the dingy's side totally flat. Or, you sit backwards it is far easier to then roll onto you tummy (rolling out towards the outside of the boat) onto the inflated sides of the dingy with you head forward and legs to the rear. From this lying down position, Fabio can then motor quick to a spot close by to anything in the water you wish to drop onto (like a great whale spot) and you can then quickly roll off the boat onto you back (a protective measure - just in case here is something solid below you) and then you can roll and gather your bearings to swim away. We use to practice these deployments for our white water, and swift water rescue courses, much like the military do. This can safely be done up to about 30kph with little need to stop and start. It also means two divers can be deployed at time, one each side, as the boat keeps motoring then another two divers takes their place and quickly be dropped off in succession. This can work well to drop divers close to the desired location while the dingy can quickly move off taking the sound and distraction of the dingy further away. It may take some practice, obviously at slower speeds to start with. Lying on the inflatable dingy sides can also be a lot of fun as you are so close to the action and ready to go. I hope this helps some. I hope the rest of the islands are great experiences too. Fair 💨's and Following 🌊's.

Great footage! We spent 2yrs there and got to see the whales quite a few times but never that close. A woman was attacked a couple years ago, diving with the whales, by an Oceanic White Tip Shark. She survived but had major injuries and was hospitalized. Enjoy the rest of your time there.

Thank you! What happened to that woman was terrible. Friends of ours that have been in FP for 5 years warned us about the Oceanic White Tips so we were always aware when went out. They actually saw them once this year. It must have been amazing spending two years in Moorea! Thanks for watching!!

Poor whales - the last thing they need is being comfortable around humans. Some countries slaughter them.

That’s very sad indeed! We love your concern with the wellbeing of those wonderful mammals. Whaling, was once a major industry. It has seen a decline due to conservation efforts. The International Whaling Commission's 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling has limited the practice, but Japan, Norway, and Iceland continue to whale commercially. Indigenous communities in Alaska practice non-commercial whaling for subsistence. We were fortunate to dive in Moorea with Dr. Michael Poole. His conservation work in French Polynesia, including the establishment of a marine mammals sanctuary has been significant and makes Moorea one of the most protected and safest place on the planet for whales. His efforts in eco-tourism also contribute to public awareness and marine conservation. Guided by Dr Poole expertise, we feel very confident that our interaction with the whales left them very comfortable, and gave an opportunity to increase awareness on the beauty and ecological importance of these mammals. Thank you for watching and for your important comment 😊
