I like the idea of the eldris but I don't really understand the pricing. It's like a half companion but triple the price haha. happy 2017! all the best!

Dutch Bushcraft Knives The pricing is set to meet the "oh, Mora has a new knife? I'll pay whatever they ask" demand. Like $100 for a Garberg. People paid those prices for a subpar knife made of average steel. It's business, which like people's decision making, doesn't necessarily follow logic.

In what way is the garberg subpar? Maybe at that price. I just got one for $60 new. Seems pretty fair

Bryan D @ $100, it's subpar. That's in line with the point the OP was making, which is the pricing scheme of these knives when they're brand new. At $60, it's average. The steel is average stainless, nothing special. The handle is hard plastic. The handle is the what kills the knife for me. I'd rather have the standard Mora rubber handle. If it had a better handle, like very basic Micarta, I could see it being a good buy. I'm not knocking you if you like the knife. We know these things really come down to preference. For the money, I simply prefer a regular $12 Mora. And I'd personally roll the $60 for a Garberg into a higher end knife made of premium stainless.

Agreed on preference. I'm new to bushcraft so I like the idea of a decent starting knife with the companion and garberg so I can beat on them and improve my sharpening with an easy to sharpen scandi. Eventually I'll get a nice bark river or something of similar quality

Bryan D Nice man. Then those should serve you fine. I've been through several knives over the last 4-5 years and have a good idea of what I like now. I've definitely paid too much for knives that really disappointed me. TOPS BOB for one. $120 for a knife that does nothing well. I just ordered a Bark River Aurora LT in CPM 3V. I wish they offered the Mini Aurora in M390. That would be my perfect primary and companion knife combo.

I love my eldris, it is my number one companion when on a day hike or small trip around. It really builds a fire, carves what I need to and when needed it is a help în the kitchen or around camp. This and an axe are really enough, but of course we are sick with knives so a fixed blade full tang 4 inch blade is always with me even if I do not need it mostly :))

Changing my Mora Garberg into a scandivex was the best choice I've ever made, I love the Garberg and esp now after giving it a slight convex. Now I have much better control with feather sticking and carving, the convex is the best grind IMHO, also the 14C28n is very good steel. I've noticed that convexing gives the edge better strength to, thanks for sharing your stone work, I don't have good stones yet but have learned by watching you work. For now I use wet dry sand paper with a very fine grain it works excellent for now.

Was wanting to buy this when I saw it came out but after seeing the size I felt pretty certain I wouldn't use it much. The Izula is the smallest I have found to be comfortable with but I carry it in the pocket and not around the neck so that might be why I dont find it cumbersome.

The guy is back. :D I'm interested in it just because the law restrictions on knifes. Expensive, if compared to a Companion. But cheap, if compared to most neck knifes. Intersting for urban carry. I like plastic sheaths and handles, muck lighter and practical. Would be perfect, if had the companion handle like with this short blade, in my opinion and needs. Thanks for sharing.

So would you prefer the eldris or a swiss army knife as your secondary knife? Assuming that you have a larger belt knife, like a bravo or a fallkniven s1, do you think that this is a good backup knife? I have been looking at the eldris, but havent really figured out if it actually fills a need, or if it is just a neat little knife
@virtuovice

Hello, I don't use the Eldris any more though I know their intention to make a full thick handle to a small blade as a neck knife for small tasks including wood jobs. But what I need in the woods is a knife which does the full tasks. So I always carry two full spec knives like Temagami as Scandi and Bravo1 as convex. Both Scandi and convex do everything I need independently but they are a little different in use and amuse me. Thanks.

Stropping polishes the apex but makes its angle larger. So before stropping we need to make the apex angle small enough by using water stones.

Old post but anyway. The Eldris share a feature with the great value Mora 2000 or the more expensive Kansbol in that very special tip portion which is thinner, almost like a sabre grind which makes that part if the knife a great slicer, perfect for food prep.

Virtuovice, i asked mora if it was acceptable to baton with Basic 511 morakniv, they told me no because it was only 3/4 tang. they told me to buy Garberg very expensive knife for batoning. what is your opinion of this?
@virtuovice
5 жыл бұрын
The Morakniv's standard 3/4 tang takes minimum batoning without neck bending. But the Garberg is one of the best batoning knife in the world because it is designed specifically for it, I am sure.
