One of my closest childhood friends has Down Syndrome and let me tell you, she's the greatest thing that happened to me. She never lets any negativity get to her and she is a secretary in an office on the Boulevard and a teacher's assistant at a local school. Her zest for life and no-nonsense can-do attitude is what inspires me to not only be a better person, but to thrive and reach my goals. She's always been supportive to me and I can't thank her enough for having her in my life. All those saying hurtful things to people with Down Syndrome are nothing more than shallow people who really need to re-evaluate their morals and values because like it or not, we are all created in the image of our Creator. That being said, just like the message in the video, we are more alike than different.

+E. Neeb Briated. If these people could rid the world of everyone with inperfections, if they succeeded, they'd turn on each other when no one else is left. I'm guessing that this guy is very angry about something. My guess is that he's been bullied or abused by parents. There's nothing people can't overcome with the right tools. I don't see how people like this can possibly make it in life and people like this contribute nothing to society, which trumps their rights to decide for others, what their worth is.

My aunt has Down's Syndrome and she has the best answer to anyone who asks what it means to have Down's Syndrome or being mentally handicapped - "It only means that you need a little help sometimes". And it's so true, they are so very much alike us, the same hopes and dreams, loving hearts and a big appetite for life! The only difference is that mentally handicapped people might need a little help from time to time. I've grown up and work with these people, and they are nothing less than fabulous!

one of the kindest souls i ever met had down syndrome. when i was 6 years old i was involved in an accident that caused severe burns to my entire back and left arm. he was my freind. when i squeezed his hand as the nurse changed the bandages he didnt budge. when i was mean to him because i was in pain he did not hold it against me. it was him smiling saying its ok sara WE CAN DO THIS. that made me love him to pieces to this day i am proud to call him my "big brother" and my best friend

stop fooling yourself: your brother will be a burden on you and your family. Trust me, I've been there, he won't be a blessing but rather a curse. And have you thought about when he is a grown up and unable to leave home, have a family, go to college? Who will take care of him when your parents die? Will your future husband agree to marry you knowing that you will be your brother caregiver when your parents die? This video sugarcoats DS and you'll be lucky if your brother turns out to be high-functioning. Most DS people are not. Your life is going to change and not for the better. He won't remain a cute kid for life...I highly recommend you to ask your mother to abort as this will destroy your family.

People who've said that people with disabilities get treated better than those without them are misinformed and ignorant. Half of ALL violent crimes are acted out on people with disabilities! People with all forms of disability encounter extreme prejudice in the culture at large (like society actually practicing eugenics and aborting children like us), and in their personal lives. People with disabilities that affect their mental processing and acuity suffer a particular kind of abuse which is horrific...

I have a visual disability. NO ONE defines it or my quality of life. No one has the right to do that to anyone. The true "drains on society" are the smart people who have to have everything on their terms. a hundred years ago and well into the 20th century, blind people were, in some aspects, treated worse than slaves or free blacks. At least they had segregated cars. We had to ride in baggage cars. People used to see us as dead weight or helpless. To the guy making the outlandish comments, I could run circles around you any day of the week. They asked my husband, "How do you keep up with her?" He shook his head and said, "I don't even try." The value of a human being is NOT in the eye of the beholder. It is in the eye of the wise.

Agreed. In most instances I have witnessed people are way nicer to people with down syndrome than to other people without it. I've helped handicap people and I've worked with them as well. They get better treatment than the average person. They get away with more and people are less likely to be assholes to people with down syndrome because not only might they feel extra guilty, anybody who witnesses it will most likely kick their ass.

I think that children are becoming more aware and the kids these days aren't bullied as much as they used to. People like me, who have been blessed with our body builds, beat those who bully those with disabilites. Instead, kids these days pick on those who are homosexual and different (of course I am still against this and will treat those bullies the same if they are found)
