Yes and being chastised by the Lord would not have been included if it was a made up story of fictional imagination. I love these points that support the truthfulness of the BOM. Of course the witness of the spirit tops all confirmation, but these amazing points are part of hundreds of thousands of layers of bedrock girding up the BOM. Excellent points!

I feel like I need to point out something important. The storms, tempests, and darkness happened at the beginning of 34AD (3 Nephi 8:5). The Lord appeared to the people a whole year later, at the end of 34AD (3 Nephi 10:18-19). So, much closer to 35AD. Many people think the Lord appeared right after the storms and darkness. I believe the Lord in his great love gave the people a whole year to process, heal, and repent by this experience.

With the tiny population size of the first couple generations in the promised land, grouping them into tribes would also have been a way to try to minimize (or at least manage) consanguinity in marriages. There would have had to be marriages between closely-related people at the start, so whatever they could do to minimize the psychological effects of that would help, and grouping into tribes right after the split was a useful strategy. I wrote an essay about this.

As has been verified by many archaeologists we have excavated less than 1% of the known ancient American ruins, and only a small overall percentage of the ones we HAVE discovered. That’s like seeing a few counties in Kansas and deciding there aren’t any mountains in the US. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. That’s pretty elementary. You should look at the evidence we DO have in abundance and not be hung up on what we don’t YET have. 70% of the original 1830 anachronisms in the Book of Mormon have been found to actually be true. Why do you have to wait until there are NONE left to open your mind to the idea that you could be mistaken? It will not hurt you at all to set your bias aside and read it sincerely. It will change your mind and heart.

Totally Speculation, but good job identifying the error of the 200 years of peace. However The Book of Mormon was dictated starting from Mosiah to Moroni and then Joseph started dictating Nephi to the Words of Mormon. The most likely reason you see an absence of Sam's lineage is because Joseph didn't think about it. You will also notice that the people from Nephi to the Words of Mormon know exactly when Christ will be coming, but the people starting in the Book of Mosiah don't seem to have a clue when Christ is coming even though they supposably have the record. Here is the reality. The Book of Mormon is not a book of history and is coming from the imaginative mind of Joseph Smith. To say that Joseph Smith dictated it while keeping his story straight is not entirely accurate, but you would know that if you read the handwritten printers manuscript that has been made available at the Joseph Smith papers project. Now don't get me wrong, I still believe in the Book of Mormon to be true and Joseph Smith to be a Prophet. I just think the Book of Mormon is a historical fictional book with fictional characters and that the only physical plates that existed were probably ones he manufactured out of tin and kept covered. As Nephi decieved Zoram for the greater good it lets us know that Joseph believes that deception is ok if it's for the greater good. A good example of this is in the movie Dumbo when Timothy the Mouse gives Dumbo the magic feather to fly. Dumbo may have never flown without it.

One observation… the death of Christ was in the beginning of the 34th year from the sign of his birth as time was tracked in the Book of Mormon… but by our current calendar it was the year 28AD Christ was born 6BC, at the time of his death it had just become his 34th year (14 days before on Nisan one) just like the Book of Mormon records How would Joseph be able to get that obscure detail perfectly correct, if he had just made up the whole thing… The more we learn of truth, the more Joseph Smith is proven to be the true prophet of the last dispensation, just like Christ said he was!

It's beautiful text and does not disagree or contradict with 1 Cor 15:1-4. 25 And the first fruits of repentance is baptism; and baptism cometh by faith unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth remission of sins; 26 And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.

This argument presupposes that the narrative regarding how the BOM was produced is accurate. This argument also is one that the BOM is internally consistent, and due to the constraints placed on Smith, that is unlikely without Divine inspiration. However, first, this internally consistency can also be explained by, well quite frankly, forgetting to include the Samites. Which seems more likely where this argument originated as a defense to that accusation rather than a proof. The major flaw in the argument isn’t however the internal contents of the BOM, there is no necessary contradiction in regards to the Samites whatsoever that I see. It doesn’t really matter if he only had daughters, or fundamentally, if it is Divinely inspired, Samites are just not pertinent to the story god wanted to tell. The problem is the argument that internal consistency in regards to the Samites is evidence for Divine authorship presupposes that the constraints surrounding the writing of the BOM is correct and accurate. Which, comes from Smith and LDS members and sources. This is not good or convincing evidence for the truth of how it was written. This argument requires you to already accept multiple LDS claims as true fundamentally, to act as any sort of evidence for divine authorship.
@travisbascom

It shows that 2 yrs prior to the BOM coming out the Samites were not included in D&C. That they were then the only group left out of BOM text multiple times shows a solid consistency over a space of 2 years. I have read the book of mormon a dozen times and never even noticed the Samites were missing. Unless your argument is that JS and historians have all mis-dated the D&C account 2 yrs earlier to give the illusion of consistency.

11 people who testified to their last breath-including 6 who had a falling-out with Joseph-that there WERE plates is certainly not “No evidence.” Why should they stick with a lie that would damage Joseph, even after his death? It makes absolutely no sense to toss that aside. If Joseph HAD re-translated the lost pages, his enemies would have changed the original and then you would be pointing at the discrepancies right now. Why should Joseph make up a story about losing them? It does him no good if it’s all a hoax. Read the Book of Mormon. It’s not hard to do. “By their fruits Ye shall know them,” not stories that are being told almost 200 years later. You don’t think a prophet will have those who want to discredit him by making things up? How do you know which stories to believe? That’s one of the blessings of actually having the Book of Mormon. It can be read and it stands as the fruit of the man many call a monster, while many others (those who HAVE read and prayed sincerely about the BoM) see him very differently. Try it! 😊

If I have faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and the only way to return to the Father and am baptized as a public confession in that faith, what need do I have for Joseph Smith or the BoM?
@chadwright1006
Жыл бұрын
That's a really great question! One response is what need did the early church have of Peter's or James' or Jude's epistles when there was already Paul's? Or why did we need a Book of Revelation? Why did God send Moses, when he already had Abraham? MY answer is that although I am thankful for the additional scripture and knowledge Joseph Smith brought to the world, I am MORE in need of what our CURRENT prophet speaks, as that is exactly what God wants for ME to know TODAY. If God IS still speaking, why on earth would I say to Him, "no thanks, I've got enough already." God loves us today as much as he has ever loved any of his children. God is also the same yesterday, today and forever. He has also not lost the ABILITY to speak or to call prophets in our day. So I find no benefit whatsoever in declaring that He cannot or WILL not give us revelation through a chosen mouthpiece--specifically tailored to our current needs, and His current desires for us, as he has always done before. As for the Book of Mormon, it was written FOR US TODAY. Nearly the entire book was written to the world in the days we live in NOW. I love the Bible, and believe it. But there is no disputing it was written specifically to those who lived at the time it was written. YES it is applicable to us, but again--I have no desire to tell God He can't or SHOULDN'T tell us more. Thanks!
