The amp helps, though mine is a modelling amp rather than the real thing. I think you can get that sound with other amps. McGuinn uses Fenders live, and went DI into the desk in the studio. Good compression is probably a bigger factor. I had an AC30 years ago, amazing amp!

Hello Everyone, it's been a long time coming, but I finally got part 2 up - ironically the pandemic meant my job got even more hectic, that's why there's only 10 songs, but I'm putting together a list for part 3, no doubt due sometime in 2022! The usual caveat applies, I know a lot of these songs *are* well known classics, it's just I don't think they tend to get enough respect as "legendary" twelve string based songs and riffs, (for example, "Pretty Woman", say compared to flipping *Supertramp*!). Thanks to the wonderful commenters on my previous vids, it's been great in the past year to read so many positive friendly and encouraging comments in what has been for so many people a really tough year, a number of whom gave great suggestions, a couple of which I've included here.

The introductory riff and then the line, "It's my life, and I'll do what I want, it's my mind and I'll think what I want" always reverberated with my self perceived rebellious side. Addendum: I have retired twice, and at my age and based on reflection, I am further convinced that one should live one's life for one self, without bending over backwards to please others while sacrificing one's dreams. It is my hope I won't be misunderstood. I am not referring to being obnoxious or socially maladaptive; it's just that often times the idea of being blindly compliant is counterproductive, especially to someone who is self reliant and has a clear sense of direction.

I might have already put in a comment, though I am sure it's different. Anyway, I am retired (have been for some years) and I have been playing guitars for a large part of my life. My point is that guitars have been one of the stabilizing factors in my life, and they have gotten me through thick and thin. Seeing these riff videos, especially those played on 12 string electric guitars, not only take me back, but also provide me with the incentive to learn them well enough to play an sing. United paid me 270 - but I'd much rather had the guitar - that one was special, compared to all the others of that model I've played since. I have an Eastwood Classic Twelve - semi-hollow, thin body and neck, dual Humbuckers - a joy to play. I use a little VOX DA5 modeler, both PU's, and it'll chime as though it has single coils on the high gain and drive Styles, and even better with a little reverb and tremolo/reverb dialed in. Such a great guitar! I wonder if the electrics are as good as they often come up at reasonable prices.

@@DylanPank71 dunno but they seem to be aesthetically challenged somewhat so it seems they dropped all except the archtops, which are probably at least the same standard as the acoustics.

Many songs by Roxette feature a 12-string Rickenbacker in places.

Great work Dylan! I've been playing So. Central Rain wrong all this time. Dreaming of a Ricky 660/12 one day...

Yes! So Central Rain never gets the credit as a great REM song it should, although it is one of their most obvious 12 riffs.

Yes, that's the first time too here with me..summer '63, Rooftop Singers. Wondered how they got that big, full. octavized sound..Years later on a video, saw them perform it on a TV variety show. Both guitarists were playing dreadnaught Gibson B-45N 12-string acoustics!! They had it down!! Big hit in the East Coast then!! The chick singing was cute too, in a plain way..a turn-on..oh well!!

12 string guitars are just versatile, its amazing how it can fit to most genres. Honest, do you think several Hollies track should be added? I.e. Bus Stop, Look Through Any Window, both have 12 strings

If it was a list of Greatest 12 string songs then sure, but I was concentrating on what I felt were overlooked numbers, and "Look Through Any Window" got a fair bit of (deserved) respect on a few "greatest" lists and KZitem compilations.

First one sounds like "Working at the Car Wash Blues" by Jim Croce.
