I agree about the comments about the shirt! That shirt is wicked! Thumbs up! As far as the BT2020 color space on my Sony OLED A80J 55 inch, BT2020 is way too over saturated, especially with the red colors, and the rest of the colors are inaccurate! I use the DCI color space which shows a very perfect, realistic, lifelike, three dimensional accurate color picture!

Auto function for color space on Samsung TV is completely broken. Instead of automatically detecting the incoming signal and matching it's color space the TV is always using the color space which is picked in CUSTOM setting of this feature If you have chosen DCI-P3, AUTO will exactly output DCI-P3. If you have chosen BT.2020, AUTO will exactly output BT.2020. I'm facing this issue on my Q70A and it seems 2020 models are having the same issue like the Q80T and Q90T Now my question is, what "Auto" is more accurate for gaming (in general) and specially for PS5? Auto fom DCI-P3 color gamut or Auto from BT.2020?

i’ve been trying to found out in game mode what color space native uses, i’ve heard people say 2020 and others say DCi, i got the x95j this year as samsungs QC is horrendous LOL but the sony has DCi and BT2020, yet when i use a HDMI switch on both tvs, sometimes the sony in DCi match’s the smaung but then other stuff looks more like BT.2020 LOLOL yet not a single article online or in samsungs website actually says which color space native uses it’s pathetic, on the qn90a that’s going back but i’ve been using it against the x95j to match color as least as good as i can, but the qn90a with DCI color space has great deep greens yet the sony looks more warm yellow green which makes no sense, but then other colors on the sony match the samsung, but then when i use 2020 on the sony and smaung together dirt faces stuff like that looks pink on the sony hey looks fine on the samsung LOL makes no sense, i’m guessing samsungs color engineers just out the spaces together better and sony is all customize it yourself but need professional equipment which is stupid

You are absolutely right about bt202 BUT - use it ALL the time. All the so called experts, state that we should leave the video signals at ‘auto’. My opinion is this is wrong. I put the HD signal to HGL and BT2020 for the colour. What you have to do to compensate is reduce the bias colours: RED -31, GREEN -15, BLUE -15. COLOUR to 32. COLOUR TEMP to Expert 2. LIVE CLOUR OFF. BRIGHTNESS 40. CONTRAST 95. GAMMA -1. HDR TONE MAPPING Brightness Preferred. This way you get to use the HD and BT2020 modes all the time. Pacific Rim or one that I found absolutely amazing was Gods of Egypt and of course there are so many more.. but anyway I absolutely love my LG C1. Also I don't know if people know but if you press that little green button with 2 dots 7 times while in a game you get a Game Bar that will pop up that gives you your FPS if your VRR is active Resolution and whether you're using 8 or 10 bit color. BT/REC 709 is SDR if memory serves correct DCI P3 Is aimed at HDR mainly on Samsung's and BT2020 is for 12 bit colour but no 12 bit panels out there for consumers but I read that HDR10+ is P3 and DV is BT2020 But I know that Samsung also has both colour spaces just like OLED but since Samsung doesn't have any oleds apart from their smart phones it's main space (in auto) is P3 which it claims to have 100% of but everyone knows this is just another marketing gimmick people see "Samsung P3 100%" but my autocal can confirm on two of my sets (900TS and Q90R) that it doesn't actually have 100% but it's close I witnessed 98% on TS & 96% On Q90R but my OLED apparently has 99% P3 and 83% 2020 which is considered high since no TV will have full 2020 coverage until 12bit panels become available to consumers! As for P3 making things greener it will! Alongside reds, blues, yellows, any main colour is "expanded" hence why in P3 things seem more greeny! It's not just greens pay attention to the other main colours and you'll see what I mean but I would keep P3 for SDR/HDR and BT2020 for HDR10+/Dolby vision 👌👍

@@TechCody113 been a while since I played with the colour space on a TV as I've all mine calibrated and just leave it as is now but I do know 100% that SDR is DCI-P3/BT.709/REC.709 and that's the native input for SDR content and that BT.2020 is the native input for HDR10+/HLG/DV so to answer your question, I'd say depending on what you're viewing I would set it and forget it. If your reds and greens are looking sunburnt/over saturated then you can always fiddle around with the colours in the menus or for simplicity just slide the R/G slider one way each way until the desired result is there. You'll never have a perfect colour space as no TV currently supports full 12BIT colour with 100% of the colour spectrums so until then this is best we can do, that said, I remember that with samsung when in only HDR mode would choose DCI-P3 and then in HDR10+ it would show BT.2020... I would choose whatever you think looks better, if your TV covers more DCI-P3 then maybe choose that but if it's got a good amount of BT.2020 me personally would always choose BT.2020, let me know how you get on. 🤘🏻

@@SSNebula see and that’s what i don’t understand LOL literally i’ve heard people say samungs native mode is BT.2020 but others say it’s DCi, i’ve used a HDMI splitter and had my sony x95j and the qn90a side by side, now to start off i can say the sammy had blue whites no matter what, it’s a problem with the qn90a so there’s more of a warm tint to the sony which is probably normal as the sam has blue whites, so it’s kinda hard to put them side by side accurately, also x95j did not have a wide color gamut which did not help at all, also the color white point was warming on the x95j which was around 6,776k and the qn90a was around 6.600 so that’s probably why i’m seeing more warm yellow with light greens because there white ponint is warmer which makes no sense, the sony also had under saturated colors out of the box which makes it 100times harder to calibrate because now it’s ether good sat but off colors or colors spot on but over/under sat, pretty much in my eyes sony masters the rec.709 color space but does it in a way where they assume your never gonna use any color space out of it LOL, so for more information the sam covered 94% of the DCI color space which i’m guessing is native on smaung at this point so DCI is the wide color gumut for SDR, so the sony only had 87% of the DCi which is probably why i’m not seeing the same colors as the smaung, with BT.2020 on the smaung it’s great and even skin tones look normal, and the samsung covered 70% of the Bt2020 whereas the sony only had 62% which is why i’m seeing such color trash, the sony had bad pink reds in 2020, but that doesn’t matter as i’m using DCi, so what my problem is and it much be that i’m used to blue whites, i even use cool color space for everything LOL, is because i got use to that i’m not use to a natural warm tint to colors, even with cool color temp the sony just looks more warm then the sammy, but what i don’t get so why are greens yellow green? like literally i had both tvs side by side and more dead grass and stuff on movies or games ain’t even brown, it’s literally a warm yellow and bugs the TF out of me, i like samsungs neon greens, i had a 2013 $7000 and it ALWAYS had just nice white whites, neon greens but not to over sat and always had bright colors for everything, and i always used native color space as rec.709 is just old and outdated no matter what people say LOL DCI is the new 709 and colors are NOT to over sat on samsung tvs my old curve was always just perfect, but ya i don’t get it, light greens just looks yellow warm to me, i guess in the end maybe sony just lacks that one point inside the DCI space to get neon greens like samsung and it lacks color and no wide color gamut doesn’t help at all which makes absolutely no sense , just another asshole company cutting corners LOL, i even watched a movie with both tvs side by side, and sometimes the sony has more red tint to faces then the samsung, so i really think what sonys problem is, is they expect everyone to use auto which just forces 709 for everything and they master that color space if you want 2005 colors LOL and then because of no wide color gamut and less coverage DCI/BT.2020 is suffering compared to samsung, i would go with smaung but choose the x95j this year as samungs banding is horrendous and i can’t stand the motion blurr especially with 24p content, my sony almost looks plasma even with 24p movies it’s sick, but since i’ve used samsung for 17 years and have always had better color it’s a downgrade for sure but it’s whatever, maybe i’ll upgrade in 3 years when samsung gets there shit together LOL

Rec. 709 wasn't the original color TV gamut! PAL and NTSC had slightly different ones. Rec. 709 is the average of the PAL and NTSC colors, introduced as a common gamut for High Definition. P3 was designed for digital cinema as a superset of what movies could actually do. Old film negatives don't really have stuff outside of P3. Color gamut itself isn't a good way to compare TVs. Color VOLUME is what the pros use, showing what hue and saturation is possible at any given brightness. Obviously you can't have saturated color at black or white. Bigger color gamut allows for more saturated colors across a broader range of brightness. Just looking at a flat gamut triangle isn't useful or informative, particularly with HDR. There are challenges with extreme 2020 colors, as we get into such narrow frequency bands that variance in our eyes' cone receptors can start seeing the same colors differently (an issue that can be seen with laser projectors).
@marcusjosephfilm
2 жыл бұрын
Important distinction - it's not that we achieve more color in the saturation through advancements like these, like most consumers believe they're getting and is often portrayed - it's that we achieve *smoother* colors that represent more color varieties in between two primary colors, such as a specific purple-blue like indigo, instead of just purple or blue. "Refined colors" is a better term, instead of "more colors", which incorrectly suggests greater saturation.

DCI covers more then bt2020 but doesn’t have as much range, so colors will be more light with dci but there’s more of a Variety of color, where has bt2020 covers less but is more vivid

Also I found Adobe RGB is nice as well. Sony does use quantum dots for many years before Samsung marketed it. Triluminous display is the own trademark for it

@stopthefomo I have three questions please answer all of them 1) is Samsung the only tv brand with 12bit color? 2) do any of brands reach 100% of rec.2020? 3) will ever reach 100% of what eye can see of color?
@lolerie

No, LG also supports 12 bit and 10 bit. Even in RGB, for LG C9 even in 48 gbit max mode. In SDR and in HDR. And no, 12 bit panel is not required, at least for HDR, since luminance is encoded in those 12 bits too. No, no one can reach BT.2020 except some laser systems. But BT.2020 is not 2d as shown here by this guy. It is 3D, and while in area it can do it, it cannot do it in volume (where luminance is the volume). If you mean the colorspace, there is already one. Called ACES. If you are talking about luminance then no. Sun for example is 1.6 billion nits, that is impossible to do.

@FULL HD I guess if your fine waiting for another year, sure... I mean I would prefer a mini or micro led, but we won’t be seeing those for at least a year or two from Sony... which I may wait for, that is even if Sony is working on a mini or micro led tv, since I think I have seen that Sony doesn’t want to use new backlight type technology.
@Ryand0523

@FULL HD yea, I will agree with the marketing bit, I am curious to see how the reviewers like those tv’s, though I will not be buying one, this year... if I buy a tv, I will more than likely get a full array local dimming led tv, depending on how well Sony or Lg is able to implement the local dimming part of the tv, this year. I could buy oled, but burn in is something I don’t really want to deal with, and when considering I never owned a plasma, due to the stuck screen effect in that technology, I will probably not be buying an oled any time soon. I understand your not liking Samsung tv’s, since I will be coming from a Samsung ks8500, where now I am really looking for a good Dolby Vision tv, if Samsung really wanted to try and maintain their hold on buyers like me, they would of gone with Dolby vision, instead of creating their own competing format of hdr 10+, which I still don’t think has much support from the movie publishers...

I have doubts about the results. Coloring is done on P3 mastering displays so technically pixels shoudn't go beyond P3 - colorists use LUTs to limit the output. We need more info on how exactly was the color analyzed.

After spending many, many hours on this - finally arrived at the conclusion that BT2020 is definitely the best setting for colour representation as well as coverage, whether watching standard or HD. However, you will have to reduce the colour bias settings to: RED -31 , GREEN -15, BLUE -15.
