I admire your level of maturity, man. All too many people climb on a Hayabusa, a ZX-14, a liter bike, 600(etc) and ride like fools even in heavy traffic. With a lot of power comes a lot of responsibility. And you did a fine job of displaying maturity and responsibility in this vid. Much respect.

I, too, am a software engineer, an accomplished classical pianist, and share your aesthetic inclinations about motorbikes. As a mid-life crisis exercise, I got my first bike, a 1203 cc 2008 Buell XB12X Ulysses, and then the second was a 1050 cc 2010 Triumph Speed Triple Anniversary Edition, both purchased new, then improved in various ways. I still ride and love both. I get much the same experience from the Speedy as you and others seem to from the 'Busa, but at half the weight and less insurance. I suggest giving the Speed Triple a serious look if you ever wish to supplement or replace the 'Busa.

Is there a reason you ride in 5th instead of 6th? With gentle hwy cruising, the Busa could easily pull 6th easily down to 3000 rpm. You'd get better fuel mileage and less vibration.

I've never ridden a liter bike, but I did have a 600. The Hyabusa being heavier I found, easier to manuver for my tastes while riding as I feel firmly planted. The throttle is gradual and accurate, not just off or on. I find it tame when you want, but of course can have wicked acceleration with no effort. Amazing pull.

Oh, the relief when he finally changes into top gear. Otherwise the commentary is pretty accurate. As an older rider who experienced the early Suzuki experiments with technology in the 70s, the Busa presented a massive leap in comfort, performance, etc., etc, etc., It is an amazing looking and riding bike. Love it. Been on Busas now for nearly 20 years, never found another bike that does what it does so easily. It is big, it is bulky but it is also comfortable (compared to crazy bikes like Ducs or the H2), and has way more power, and particularly torque, than you'll ever need. Amazing.

If you have taken the basic MSF course you should be able to get up to 15% discount. If you are worried about corners read A Twist of the Wrist I & II by Keith Code. Its geared toward racing but the same practices apply the same to a street rider. He makes up his own terminology at a few different points but the mechanics and concrete principals are there. I read these four years after I took the MSF course and it drastically improved my street riding comfort and skill level.

Learn counter steering then get a lite, cheap motorcycle and go practice practice practice. You want to start off lite so the forces are not too strong, you won't be as afraid. Also, you want a beater bike so that if you make a mistake, its not a 12,000$ mistake. Wear good protective gear and enjoy! Challenge yourself to do sharp turns.
