I genuinely believe this and the psx eras were the best eras for games. Devs, gamers and creatives. People were just way more open to experiment and try new things. Plus, ya know, when you bought a game, its yours, no questions asked. The secondhand market was a godsend for younger me. Edit: for context, yes the modern indie scene is great, and im glad it exists (much of my current library is indie titles). But i still miss having physical copies of those games.

6th gen and the 2000s in general gave me my favorite FPS games of all time. I miss those days.

Exactly my same sentiment. Also add that games came out complete and functioning (most of the time, there was the occasional stinker every now and then). Nowadays mainly indie games continue to experiment and the like, when they're not like the nth overcooked or vampire survivor clone or what. Sigh.

DUDE THANK YOU FOR COVERING EXTERMINATION!!! I remember playing this game on one of those demo packs near release and never could remember the name of that game!!! It was to the point where I started to swear it was some fever dream I imagined or something. The infection system in this game was really weird and was part of what made this game live rent free in my head all these years later.

Oh man, I love sky odyssey! its like indiana jones in the sky! secret hidden map pieces, plane parts and upgrades, hidden airplanes to unlock, so much fun! if you go into free flight, you'll discover every island is one big map thats broken down into seperate levels. there was an official website that isn't around anymore that had tons of beautiful concept art and ingame screenshots too. i hope one day it gets a remaster or port

Extermination was a "bad PS2 game" fodder that I played on stream when I used to stream back in 2009 on Mogulus (now Livestream). It was pretty well known then due to it being in a "top 50 worst video game voice acting" youtube video which used the PAL lines I think. We used to play that video all the time and quote lines within our early streaming community. I bought up tons of PS2 games in Amazon marketplace for nothing back then like Michigan: Report from Hell. I played the PAL version and I remember the enemies being a slog to kill and I never beat the game, I spent around 2 hours on the final boss like hitting my head against a wall before just giving up. It's only now that watching this video 15 years later that I've found out about the Rocket Launcher.

I had Freak Out. I was about 12yrs old and only just got my PS2. Freak Out was the 4th game I owned my mum got for me on a sale (wonder why) and I had absolutely no idea what to do and thought 'what the hell even is this' of course playing it now in my 30's I have a good grasp of the game. But I would never class it as a game, maybe like a PS2 tech demo showing you graphics and how you can interact with the geometry

I beat that Gundam game in PCSX2 few months ago. First time I tried it's glitched right from title screen but switching to software mode it works. Back then my PC isn't powerful enough for software mode to run smoothly but now I can. Software mode may look ugly since you can't do any enhancement and stuck in original PS2 resolution but better than not playable at all. It's been a while so I don't remember if I did beat the whole game in software mode or new nightly build made the issue you mentioned go away since I never encountered any. I recommend trying software mode or if you're still using PCSX2 stable build try nightly build.

There are so many variables like this, that I thought it was silly to call the guy who said he solved the problem with a new BIOS a liar. Often we try multiple setting changes at the same time and incorrectly assume the one that fixed the problem. I once had a job as a bug finder on a piece of complicated software, and know how hard it can be to precisely identify what's going wrong, especially if you're not a skilled software coder with a debug tool.

I'd say that Sky Odyssey actually has more of a Dreamcast vibe to it, though so do a lot of other early PS2 titles. There's just something so very charming about these sorts of games, which I love.

Played the PAL version of Extermination. Yes, it's a RE clone, but quite solid at it (except the... ending? was that an ending?), and dare I say had its scary moments, especially in the beginning. It definitely needs more recognition.

I wish Mobile Suit Gundam The One War got a Western physical copy back then. Bandai Namco hasn't given us a game like this for a long time now. Hopefully, it and other older Gundam games get rereleased one day for both current consoles and pc. Given that The Thing 6th gen game is getting remastered, maybe one day Extermination will get remastered too. Horror games like this are popular again thanks to recent RE games. Cold Fear is also worth a play through. Shame it got overshadowed by RE4 back in 2005.

I remember when I fell in love with the ps2. I was gently rubbing the back carriage of my newly minted sleek black gaming machine when my index finger slipped into the Ethernet port. My mother had always warned me to stay away from such things less I become a freakazoid and yet it felt so natural. Me and the PS2 are happily married now, living a wholesome life away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's true love. 🎎

I remember playing a demo of Extermination as a kid. The actually scared the crap out of me and gave me nightmares. But looking back at it now I feel silly this scared me when I've played way scarier games like Resident Evil. Also, don't know if you've said it in the video or not but this game is an unofficial sequel to Deep Fear, a survival horror game that takes place in an underwater military base.
