Just wanted you and everyone who sees this to know… Last night I tried your method and the way you EQ a room my pa sounded the best I’ve ever sounded… Just saying. Glad I stumbled on your videos thank you.

No one audio person will work the same. Really have to be there to have an accurate listen and even at that we all have our own bias when it comes to what sounds “good”. People will critique and throw criticism without even considering the factors I just mentioned. You do you Billy! I myself work differently tuning and mixing wise. And others will heavily rely on Smaart. At the end of the day, if you’re able to service the band and people were able to appreciate the music then I say you’ve done your job.

I also think it’s important to point out… you’re starting with your main fader at 0, turning up your input fader and setting gain based on volume produced. You should set gain on the input meter so that the meter hits line level per the console. Which on the m32 is -18 or where the first yellow light emits. Then you bring the fader up for the output needed. If you find your input faders have to be too low, then you should turn down your PA, or pull back your main left/right master. Point being, input gain should be set to line level not whatever you need for the volume/output with the mains at Unity.

I think I’m going to try something a little different. We use digital drums and digital pianos with beta 58 mics and use in ears for monitors. We are a Dueling Piano group. I’m going to sub group my vocals and pull out ugly frequencies in this sub group only … not the mains. Because I don’t want to pull those frequencies out of the digital piano and digital drum which are basically eqed perfectly from the factory’s. I will also put pianos and drums in sub groups just so I have a whole Nother EQ situation. For all.

Hey Kyle, vocal subgroups are an excellent way to go as well. I also use this method live and in the studio. The only reason that I don’t do that with this band is that I am using all the auxes for in ear mixes and I don’t have any available to make subgroups. You can also add a limiter to your vox subgroup for a bit of “glue”. You will love the results!

Hi Kurubale thanks for the kind words! This system is using the Shure GLX-D series mics. I'd recommend evaluating other models in the Shure line. I am a die hard Shure fan, however the GLX series have a few flaws that are problematic.

When you have the subs either side of the stage do you not experience power allays/valleys? I find then subs in the middle work a lot better. I understand being in a wedding band myself that this isn’t always convenient but I do find centre sub placement better. Was just wondering your opinion on this? Thanks
@StereoAnthony
Жыл бұрын
I imagine most sound tech folks would also prefer having subs in the centre, but 2 of the biggest reasons we don't is: #1. Low frequency blowback on to the stage, into the mics. This is the biggest one. Most of us can't afford the space or to buy 1 or more extra subs just to have a cardioid sub setup. #2. Space. Whether its stage space, room space, or vehicle space.

Hey Noe, that's an excellent question! I honestly don't know. Its always displayed like that for as long as I've had the console. I'd bet the response speed is an option in the Settings menu. I'll give the settings menu a look on my next show.

Which one do you like, the midas or the studiolive 24?
@billylaguardia
Жыл бұрын
Hi Ari. I prefer the Midas. Here is my personal opinion on each: Midas Pros: 1. Easier to use 2. Sounds better Midas Cons: 1. 4U of rack space is required when using the M32C and the DL32 which can be problematic for fly rigs 2. It uses AES50, which no other manufacturer uses. So it only works with other Midas gear Presonus Pros: 1. Small 2U format 2. Uses AVB which is an industry standard digital networking protocol 3. Very scalable because of AVB Presonus Cons: 1. GUI is clunky 2. EQ is not great 3. Generally just sounds OK all around

Are you always saying you get comments about EQ because it's so aggressive? Do some say you should just turn down? Just wondering. I guess I don't see anything wrong with EQ....
@billylaguardia
8 ай бұрын
The general consensus from the comments section in all my videos is that: 1. I should turn it down if feedback is problematic 2. The amount of EQ I have to use in certain rooms is like a phase nuclear explosion 3. Smaart is the only way you should dial a PA in 4. If vocal mics cause feed back issues, EQ should be applied to a buss while the main buss remains flat. I agree with you FYI 😉

Sorry to tell you but you’re just doing a game of ping pong by bringing faders up, EQ’ing the shit out of it, then you bring the fader up, then more EQ, then more fader. I don’t find you’re making progress with this process even though you think you do. 🤘🏼👍🏼
