I can confirm the observations you made about Fi. I find myself being deeply attracted to Fi overall. Their ability to “just know” at times when I get stuck is fascinating to me. And yes, the way their Fi manifests seems to rely on their personal history. Put simply, it seems that Fi manifests on a spectrum against the individual’s level of personal security. Low level of trust in life, highly-weaponized Fi self-righteousness. High level of trust in life, full freedom to become a “moral center” for their society. Three high-Fi users I know. 1. My mother is INFP and she “isn’t there” as you say. She is the youngest child and was always doted on. She became Christian early in life and it seems she had the freedom to fully embrace this in her life. She has undying faith in the goodness of people. To terrifying degrees. 2. A former INFP roommate. Grew up homosexual in the South. Ran away to find a better life. His Fi manifested like he was an “abused dog”. Controlling and angry. Often played the victim card. 3. Former ESFP girlfriend. She observed constantly and then “just knew what to do”. I marveled at her very “gut-based” decision-making. She knew what movie she wanted to watch, she knew what she wanted to do today, she knew what clothes she wanted to buy, she knew what she wanted as a career. She knew what she liked in people. I admired that deeply. I personally admire Fi because of its ability to be so sure without any outside support. They seem to be very powerfully “principled”. Whereas for me, principles shift and wane as situations and intentions change.

That gut feeling thing is probably what I envy most about Fi. A lot of the time I just end up deciding by not deciding due to analysis paralysis, or just sleeping

I noticed Fi is the source of gratitude. It makes sense since the selfish are the grateful. My ENTP boyfriend gets off on my selfishness and the gratitude I give in return. I believe it's his Fe savior complex and their dire need for appreciation. -INTJ

I totally agree with your observations, even as a dominant Fi user this function is the worst to deal with in people, it has the highest potential for good but also rarely accomplishes that potential, a perfect fictional example for this Fi development from the ground is Thorfin in Vinland Saga, it's a fascinating example for what Fi can be but often isn't.

This felt like a sweet half diss, half love letter (which seems to be the hallmark of an INTP’s affection haha) to Fi. I can relate to your struggle to understand this opposing function, as I’ve experienced the same except with Fe. In the past, I often judged Fe by its stereotypes- smiles that don’t reach the eyes, superficial compassion with no follow up, and shuffling conflicts under the rug. But it took getting to know an ENFJ and understanding her intentions that has made all the difference for me. I finally understood that what I believed to be “faux charms” were actually her shooting tendrils of herself outwards, reaching for a connection. Like you with your professor, I was trying so hard to sneak my way backstage, only to be met time and time again with the passionately loving cast and crew behind Fe. So I hope, maybe, getting an understanding of the intentions behind Fi may help you on your journey to appreciating it too. One of the most important lessons my ISTJ mother imparted on me was that people will see you for who you really are no matter how loudly you proclaim it or try to to mask it. They’ll see it in your mannerisms, your micro expressions, and your Freudian slips. It’s simply not worth the effort to try to control the narrative, so play life to your own song and the right people will play along. I’ll bet that wonderful ENTJ professor of yours had an ideal or value that he held dear to him. Perhaps to show you a different side to Fi, perhaps to inspire you to share this anecdote with others, or perhaps in hopes that his show of kindness will spread like ripples on still water. Being recognized for his deeds is always a nice cherry on top, but he doesn’t need it if the very act is sustenance for his soul. Anyways, great video ramble as always! Keep up the good work! I look forward to hearing your take on Te and Se!

Seems like you are projecting. I agree Fi are comes off as selfish and they are selfish. If someones job is to know what they want, how things affect them, etc then of course someone looking from outside will say you ate selfish. And helping others is the parameter to know if someone is good or bad? So Fe person who is born to take others into account, help others to then feel good about themselves isn't selfish? So Fe person won't help someone if they don't see something in return? While Fi is sure in their own head, of course selfish don't know about others priorities but they don't have the underlying point of is helping them get me something. So now it's upto that Fi person would they help them or not. Fi is sure naive, selfish and even selfless sometimes cause they are that dumb lol. They don't use Te. So they are not seeking validation and nor they are thinking.

I think I may know what you mean. There's a certain purity and alien-ness to these high end Fi types, like with Fi doms where Te is suppressed so you don't get as much of that pushy righteousness you see with "lower end" Fi. David Lynch is a great example of this higher end Fi - incredibly dreamy, wholesome, authentic Fi dom (I think) who seems to embody that "goodness" you described.
@andrewswanson4819

@Michael Loftus exactly, as a healthy Fi-dom you probably have a very keen sense of right and wrong and what feels good to you, it's unhealthy people with Fi lower in their stack that can be a little annoying to be around. I'm fairly confident I'm Ti-dominant, but I've always wondered (since discovering MBTI) what it'd be like to take some magic pill that'd let me experience having Fi as my first or even second function for a few days - it sounds totally alien to someone who's only ever viewed the world through their hyper-logical glasses. I've read it can be very turbulent and intense at times, but I really wonder what that's like...how would you describe it?

@Wolfgang Groypzart Amazing explanation--thank you. This explains so much of what we see from the outside. Y'all are a fascinating mess! And all that looks so exhausting. Very grateful to be a robotic INTP. Much less stress...

The high end Fi users identify most with the higher frequency values, such as love and kindness above all else. For these types the ego has become small, usually after the painful process of healing trauma or attachment wounds. This involves a level of compassion that can't penetrate the walls of self-preservation, so they must come down.

This is an ENTJ we want to raise the group average. The battle to be good when no one is looking. My friend pointed out once that all my coworkers started eating whatever I ate. I never noticed that. ENTJs are usually too good if we are good at all.

I have so many questions that I'm not even sure where to begin or if any of them will even remotely be answered, but I'll present to you the one that bothers me the most; So if most Fe users cannot ever be more than a disgusting reprehensible wretch since they do not have a sense of good or bad detached from societies dictations of good & bad, and if it's especially impossible for say an INTP with supposed Fi 'demon' to be a good person, what is the point of being? As in how do you reconcile with yourself and your entire existence as you lie on your deathbed recounting your life if you are so sure that there was absolutely no option for you to have been a good person at all? As if being a good person was far out of your control? What was the point of the whole journey? What did you learn?
@GhostHeads
Жыл бұрын
The point of being... Well I'd have to say that depends on your beliefs & willpower. I'm a INTP that constantly questions my morality and I imagine different scenarios and what I would do. It's good to constantly ask yourself things like that and be emotionally intelligent, not just calculating. I think you always have a choice, you really do. No one can tell you you don't, and you definitely should not let MBTI or yourself tell you you don't. If you care, then you care and you give it effort. If you don't care, then you simply don't and you live your life non-conforming. Be individualistic. Hold your frame and most of all, just be real with yourself.

Do you think there’s a high end Ti as well? Like if high end Fi is this abstract connection to goodness in essence, what is Ti connecting to? I think that would help in understanding what Thinking is on a fundamental level. I know Te has a similar problem to Fe in this situation and can only go so far up the thinking chain because it’s limited to the conceptual environment of the time but it’s not obvious to me what the highest ends of that chain is tethered to. I would guess Truth but I find that Ti is also connected to (or at least examines critically) the essence of morality often so I feel like Truth doesn’t cut it. Regardless great vid. Looking forward to the Se video when that comes out

I meant this video to examine one form/function of high-end Fi. I haven’t thought much about high-end Ti. Early guesses: 1. Cutting everything apart to learn how best to fit each piece together to maximize happiness. 2. Achieving ego death to understand/embrace contradictions-ultimate answers and infinite options simultaneously. Edit: There isn’t an ultimate answer. My answers are mine. Others’ answers are theirs. There isn’t an ultimate purpose. Tools are tools. Thinking about it wastes time because I already know my answers. There isn’t an ultimate Fi. My thoughts are all in relation to me. I don’t know how else to explain seeking an objective/perfect/ultimate anything is pointless.

didn't I heard from you? that Fi hero works just like Ti hero. it doesn't matter how everyone else think or do, we have to speak truth, for the sake of our self, or our identity. so, in that way, INFPs & ISFPs must be the same on "goodness", except they have Te inferior...is this what you mean misattribute to Se?
@aa-ck4rn
Жыл бұрын
As an older ENFP, I’m bothered by the Cheshire Cat Fe’s need to force consensus and the disruptive Se’s tendency to break the peace. As for Ti, Ni, and even Si, I’ve grown to respect them more over time. It seems to take all types to make this world. :-)

Fi says ‘you do you, and imma do me’ because seeing the full spectrum of a person by creating space for their authenticity and what is similar/different is fascinating. Fe is ‘we all have to feel the same, good or bad’. Fe has a harder time relating to other people believe it or not. They can sense what’s going on with a person strongly but not understand why. Fi does that instinctually because it looks at things from an individual perspective. Look into socionics for better explanations about Fi and Fe. Maturity level should be taken into consideration when assessing how a function is operating. I wonder what your sample size of Fi users is?
@kuni--9243

Also an observation, high Fe users can blend in well with people better and it’s more of an instantly. For Fi users, there is a wall separating themselves and others, you are you and I am me. We can get along but I am still my own person. Fi users don’t want to change that one part of themselves that makes them themselves. It’s what makes them them

Interesting. Are you saying that this special form of Fi, as opposed to standard and low-end, can exist in any of the top four slots? Fi dom or Fi inferior (your ENTJ prof)? It's like when push comes to shove, this form of Fi chooses the noble option? Is "noble" the word that describes its decision-making goal?
@Skimmerlit
2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Yes. "Good" according to your definition. "Good" varies, but that "this is worth aspiring toward" spot doesn't. "Noble" is a loaded word. "Good" is loaded, too, but it's better because it's vague and harder to pin and control.

And again this isn’t specific to this video nor you as a creator, but how do I know the Fi you’re talking about is the Fi I’m talking about? How do I know the ENTJ you mean is the ENTJ I mean? What if your ENTJ to me means ESFP? And if all opinions are valid, then what are we talking about? I saw the document pinned somewhere, but how do I know my interpretation matches your interpretation? People get mad at this type of question but I figured you would be ok. At the moment I use CS Joseph’s social engineering ideas mainly to maintain shallow relationships, and watch a handful of people for the liberal arts video essay kind of aspects.

The functions describe a difference, and there is an observable difference. The differences matter more than what system you choose to label them. Regarding the other comment: "High-end Fi" meaning "Fi operating at a high level." Fe and Fi niceness have different motivations and operate differently--this video points out differences. Practice observation and pattern recognition. You shouldn't need people to understand your system for you to use it.
