Another example of great songs you hardly ever hear on the radio……great times, great era……I lived through the best era of music 50s, 60, 70s and 80s………wouldn’t have missed it for the world!

Me too, I’m in my 70’s and the music from that era is second to none. Watch Pat sing the same song on a 5:03 KZitem. After the song he talks about the years he play in Ricky Nelson’s band. Good stuff

I heard this song for the first time just a few years ago, but then I live in Sweden, and I guess it was a hit only in the US and Canada, unfortunately. Should have been a #1 everywhere. Too bad they - and Pat - didn't have more hits. A great great voice. That song captures the happy times of the 60's. RIP Pat.

The Spiral Starecase was an American pop band, best known for its 1969 single "More Today Than Yesterday". Hailing from Sacramento, California, United States, the band was recognizable for its horns and lead singer/guitarist Pat Upton's voice. "More Today Than Yesterday" peaked at number #1 on April 23, 1969 on KHJ Boss Radio, at #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number #7 on the Cash Box Top 100. It is ranked as the 50th biggest U.S. hit of 1969. The group did record many songs for Columbia Records including several singles. None of those however could match the success of "More Today Than Yesterday", and the group disbanded approximately 18 months after the chart topping song was released. Poor management, squabbles over finances and a lawsuit also contributed to the original line-ups decision to call it quits.

I DON'T THINK SO, A IS TOO FAR FROM F#. I'M A NIGHTCLUB SINGER IN THE PHILIPPINES AND A KEYBOARDIST AS WELL THAT'S WHY I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO TRANSPOSE FROM DIFFERENT MALE TO FEMALE OR FEMALE TO MALE KEYS, YOU WILL NOTICE THAT HOW MANY NOTES WOULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THOSE KEYS. AND IF YOU ARE A SINGER, BY SINGING ALONG WITH THE MUSIC, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY NOTICE IF IT'S NOT IN ITS ORIGINAL KEY. I'M PRETTY SURE HE SANG IT WITH THE ORIGINAL KEY.@@tomkearney3075

Lots of comments about him hitting the high notes. His performance on the 1969 single was phenomenal. I do not want to take anything away from the enjoyment of this performance, but they dropped the key for him, as is common for aging singers. He did a good job in the vid, but they were not the same high notes as the original.

Pat told me how he wrote that great song in his hotel room in Las Vegas as he was trying to build more material for his album. I don't remember who (which recording label) signed it first but Sony ended up with it and Pat told me he sure didn't make much money on Sony's release. The song (and others) earned him plenty of gigs throughout his life but some record companies just had a way of screwing musicians out of their due.
