Thank you both for another great , informative talk . Lots of great information to digest and learn from . Hopefully one day I will have gathered enough information to try a match myself . Till then remember the only time to brag about having the smallest one is at the range....with a target in your hand .🤔🍻🍻🍻

I have been using the Eric Cortina method for load development at 100 yards for over a decade now. I have always been able to devlope a load that shoots well. Yes some perform better than others but they all come in and shoot well at 1000 yards (at least 1 MOA). However in our sport, F-Class Open, half MOA is pretty common with quarter minute guns often on the line so EVERYTHING comes into play and showing up at the 1000 yard line.

Yes bullets are the expensive piece of the puzzle! Here in Canada, $60 a box for Hornady Match . So 10 boxes(200 rounds) is $600 for a weekend competition. And not a lot of savings especially for those new to the game to reload. Great content Thanks 🤙

Are you saying it is $60 a box for 20 complete cartridges or just the bullets? Idk what the reloading scene is like in Canada but, even with the high component prices here in the U.S., it costs maybe $1 per round to reload 6.5 Creedmoor, for example.
@WarrenHumphrey-s5j

$60 for complete rounds on average. $47-$65 depending on store or sale

Bullets alone are $56/100 and up depending on type and weight for 6.5mm, new brass is over a $1 a round plus powder and primers.
@michaelhill6451

@@warrenhumphrey3956 It depends on the bullets. Even Hornady ELD-Ms are ~ $0.46 and I have more than 10 firings on my Lapua brass right now and no signs of wear. Say a lb of powder is around $45 and you use 42 grains of powder per round. That's $0.27 per round for powder. Say your brass is $1 per and you use it 10 times, that's $0.10 per round. Primers are about $0.12 now (which is ridiculous). Anyway, you get $0.46+$0.27+$0.10+$0.12 = $0.95/round.

Definitely in the long run it’s cheaper to reload! But getting started is a big hit $$$

I'm not that familiar with PRS lingo so it's the first I've heard of the "Oklahoma Special" you guys talked about between 11:03-13:00 . I agree people try to get way too creative for their first rifle build though. I certainly did (I'm a goofy moron with a carbon fiber barrel) and I'm in the process of selling it to fund a rifle I won't regret. Just go to the Precision Rifle Blog and look at the What The Pros Use section. Pick stuff towards the top of each category and move on. I've got a Lone Peak Fuzion / Benchmark barrel / Foundation rifle on order right now and I'm sure it'll work great.

In the 1:27min mark or so.. when they talk about the old school way of shooting a big rifle to get used to the recoil. I would suggest the other alternative approach.. if you plan on shooting long range, learn to shoot with an accurate small gun or low BC like a 6br or dasher to help force you to read wind right off the get go. It’s like going up to bat, taking practice swings with a weighted bat so you can swing faster and easier when the time comes

@@JacobTerherst I actually really like the tuner brake he did with without warning. However a tuner ain't going to make you a better shooter. the 26 pound Oklahoma special rifle will however cover if you have sloppy fundamentals.

Looking up and down the line, best and most consistent shooters are retired or nearly retired with grownup kids. Time is precious in the earning years, especially if you got a late start.

@@albertcapizzo1332 won't mention that average target is like... 2 MOA which is a barn door meaning, you can be competitive with factory ammo... and that saves time. Takes me several hours to load 100.
