I had an Austin 1800 and loved it (except on very hot (Australian) days), when the cooling system struggled to keep up! Anything above 38c and you didn't want to be caught in traffic!

All the 1800s I ever had would fire up immediately without all that cranking over, this sounds like a bag of nails compared to the ones I had and they had all done mega miles, this one sounded as though the alternator bearing was about to collapse or water pump bearing, one or possibly both were knackered, when mine was ticking over you had difficulty hearing them they were that quiet but that thing sounded awful. That 5 bearing 1800 engine was one of the best engines BMC or BL if you prefer ever made. It was nippy and returned decent fuel economy as well, by far the best cars I ever owned for comfort and reliability unlike the Ford and Vauxhall shit I had owned before.

Just adore these Landcrabs , I had a white N-Reg one and I wish that I had never sold it, my friends dad had a G-Reg MK2 and it's still running today, brilliant vehicle I would buy a new one tomorrow if anyone fancies building one preferably an 18/85 Wolseley S.

I would love a ride in an 18/85S ! As a kid I was a passenger in an Austin / Morris 1800S, the driver drove really fast with tyre screeching starts in the Chigwell area, wonderful.

Lovely car, in such nice condition too! I’m not sure I’d have the revs up so high from cold though.

What a beautiful car, I'm envious! The cold start fast idle needs adjusting to a slightly lower speed as others have mentioned. Isn't that a Wolseley steering wheel? Those seats look like they're leather.

Why was it struggling to start? When I had my 1809 it would crank maybe for 3 seconds before it fired up, which was more then my 1100 but I never cranked it that long even in a Winnipeg -40f day.

3000rpm on choke? Fast idle/choke should be set at 1500rpm by the manual and hot idle 750/850. Looks and sounds good though.

Are the dials a factory equipment, or they are aftermarket optionals?

Hi orinbay again! How do you keep the engine so clean? What do you use to do this without making a mess of the footpath below the engine bay?

orinbay. I had four of these over the years over the years and not one of them ever leaked oil so it's wasn't that difficult to keep the engine bay clean
