It’s a curious thing Hunter. I have never seen one like it.

Very cool vid Terry! You had me hooked at “Abandoned”! I love anything abandoned and if there’s a story about it, even better! Love the old pic for comparison to current day! ❤️😎

What an interesting video! I always loved exploring abandoned structures and ruins. That base was definitely for a stand pipe. I'm thinking that someone picked up that spike with plans to make something from it, but changed their mind and threw the spike back in the scrap pile. Cool video Terry!

Thanks John! But that spike was in dirt and seemed to have been a while, yet not painted and not a bit of rust. So weird.

To answer your question: yes, a standpipe base. The water tower was located just west of the station and on the north side of the line. Of the new stations built along the Seaway diversionary line (Iroquois, Morrisburg, Ingleside, Long Sault, Cornwall), only this one and the Cornwall station remain standing. Cornwall station is, of course, still in use. It too had a water tower when built.

Something so sad about these places although very interesting. It seems quite modern. Maybe the spike is galvanised for some reason. Always comes as a bit of a shock when such a long train comes to an end. As if you think well thats it. Its going to go on forever. Then its gone. Another great day out Terry👍

Thanks Dave! Possibly galvanized. But to what end? I should poke around the internet to see if there is an answer. The station was built in the 1950’s and is of the same era as the one in Cornwall, which is still in use.

All those spikes and metal you found hanging around could make many a knife makers dream come true. Keeping on filming

@@Elliottblancher Hi Elliott. I didn’t see any sign saying to keep out. If there was it was hidden, knocked over, or whatever. I don’t poke around places with signs. I’m not saying there wasn’t one there. I just didn’t see one. It certainly wasn’t obvious if there was. I thought the place was simply abandoned. I didn’t take anything.

@@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi I shouldn't have used such harsh words, it's just I have as historical interest with that station and want to see it preserved in the future and not left derelict like what happened with the Iroquois Station

@@Elliottblancher no worries Elliott. It’s sad to See. Obviously many vandals have gotten inside it. I looked into the opening and everything is smashed. Don’t people have better things to do? Well, one day it may be torn down. I’m glad I got to see it anyway.

Kind of sad to see it in such a derelict state. Lots of potential mini workshop anvils from short sections of old track kicking around though. The spike looks like it might have been dipped in zinc? I think there was more rolling stock in that train than the whole of te UK! Those tankers look like they'll be abut 100 tons each?

Hehehe. Yep. We do have long trains. Dipped in zinc. Hmmmmm. Possibly. But to what end?
