A lot of comments about how it's weird that the audience is clapping, and it that's because it is. BUT, and TV tapings in America, there's usually a, "Rally guy" who kind of directs the audience to clap or even have an over-exaggerated laugh anytime the guest says something. This is so the viewers at home has the impression that the studio wants transmitted.

Totally uncomfortable situation for Morrissey for sure! This is when stupid MTV made singers and bands go along with this ridiculous round of questions in order to please the kids in the audience and to make the singers or bands look "nice". If I love Morrissey and The Smiths back then, aside for his awesome music, it's because of the man's brutal honesty. I'm sure that If Morrissey had had the chance to speak his mind out right there in the middle of the show, he would've said, "I enjoy making music with the band and I'm happy to perform it love but, honestly, I can't stand the way the music industry and television networks expose artists in America... It's annoying, irritating and quiet stupid".
@JSTNtheWZRD

Whoa!!!! If anyone could write about that feeling Morrissey created growing up it would be Sylvia Plath. Her poetry was a perfect expression of art, as you don't have to take it in the context with which it was written, in her world, you could read it flatly and in a more artistic way, and this is not true of all poets, only the best. And if anyone was Smiths like I would imagine Oscar Wilde and Miss Plath. Plath for her versatile writing dynamic that is often underestimated and Oscar Wilde because of Morrissey holding a bunch of lupins in his back pocket being the devilish romantic plucked from suburbia up on stage - someone said he was the greatest lounge singer there ever was - and it's true!
