I feel the same way about MK11 that you feel about this movie. I genuinely cannot understand how someone can call themselves an MK fan yet like what NRS has done to MK11. It seems like they're continuing the trend where they retcon every single story, development, lore and motivation of every character like it's a sport. You said it best in your MK11 review - this franchise DESPERATELY lacks consistency. One game a character is white, now they're Asian. One moment you're from Earthrealm, next you're from Outworld. One game you're a good guy, next game you're bad. One scene you're an almighty invincible tank, next scene you get your backside handed to you on a platter by a fill-in character. The movie seems to be following the trend of the games where they change all story, development, lore, and motivation of each character by retconning it to include these tattoos, or "marks". Your suspension of disbelief can only take but so much, especially when you realize it's magical and passes from person to person. Honestly, at this point, I'm no longer an MK fan. I personally can't tell who's more guilty of butchering this story - NRS or its fans. It really seems like they both don't respect the franchise anymore.

It really does feel like the standard of quality has really slipped, and most disappointingly, people seem to be so keen on accepting it, and I just don't get it myself either. I'll always be an MK Fan in the nostalgic sense at least. I'll always love playing old school MK games with friends or cheesing AI with jump kicks in the classic games. I can't imagine a world in which I would not enjoy playing Mortal Kombat 9. But with MK 11 and now this movie, it's beginning to feel like the new direction of Mortal Kombat, with Warner Bros at the helm with half a roster of corporate approved guest characters, a new legion of fans raised on esports and tournament highlights instead of fan-made flash animations on Newgrounds and a night of versus mode on the couch with friends, and the soul-crushing gambling-esque grinding nature of modern day triple AAA video games, well it's just beginning to feel like this new Mortal Kombat doesn't have a place for someone like me any more. I feel alienated from something I've enjoyed all my life. To say it's disappointing is an understatement. It's frustrating to say the least, especially when people want to accuse you of not being a genuine fan when you aren't willing to buy into this new direction this franchise seems to be headed. To me, Mortal Kombat was best when I was having a blast playing match after match with friends, messing around in goofy modes like Motor Kombat or Tournament mode in MK Trilogy, using silly codes on the VS screen to do all sorts of crazy things, looking up how to do fatalities in a strategy guide or on the internet because you had no idea how to do them and the game didn't tell you, and enjoying the fandom with all the internet forums, Newgrounds animations, sprite comics, and other silly things with like minded people who enjoyed the same things about Mortal Kombat that you did. I don't know what the future holds for Mortal Kombat and me. I'd hate to say we're done, but at this point it's not looking optimistic.

@@poqreslux "it's just beginning to feel like this new Mortal Kombat doesn't have a place for someone like me any more. I feel alienated from something I've enjoyed all my life." It's basically like that for most of entertainment these days. A shame. It just makes me even more conflicted with how the mecha genre is slowly dying peacefully as the old creators retire and nobody's there to pick up the reigns but maybe it's for the better. Everything else is just miserable at this point and in games it's doubly the case when you see AAA and gacha games on mobile. Absolutely dsgusting.Warner and A&T at this point are just killing MK and the other IPs they own, like with Batman : Arkham.

I think the worse thing is that MK11 basically spells out that they’re just going to keep doing this over and over again as much as they like. People telling me NRS are these masters of storytelling are fucking high. Like yea congrats, you’re not capcom who write stories for their games like they wish they were Kojima but NRS is not Shakespeare either ya fucking dickheads.

The 1995 film was pretty solid despire being made during a time when CGI was pretty bad and them having to keep the violence tame for a PG-13 rating. They made the absolute best with what they had and it worked. This movie on the other hand had all the resources and ceative freedoms you could possibly want to make an ideal MK movie and they managed to royally fuck it up. There's no excuse for why this movie was do mediocre.

The jpeg at 1080p encapsulates the whole experience better than most reviews. As for the englishmen, they had arrived by then. The portugese had arrived even earlier though. The first englishman in Japan was William Adams aka Anjin Miura under the Tokugawa Shogunate, in 1600. Mortal Kombat started as a tribute to old martial arts movies and now it's just one giant nepotism cycle. Hahahaha. As for Kung Lao, it's probably a mix of the two since a former Shaolin disciple, Ranton, did speak about Kung Lao at one point and how he wanted to do some of his stuff since only his hat stuff is obviously fake. As for Sub-Zero, at least before MK9, yes, that's how it goes. Bi-Han and Kuai Liang only knew about themselves as Earthlings until Quan Chi spilled the beans about Edenian cryomancers fleeing to Earth and mingling with humans because Shao Khan fucked them. Despite that, it's not like Bi-Han or Kuai Liang giving much of a shit about it anyways, Bi-Han was all about money and hating being called a ninja XD while little bro was honourable and stuff. I'm pretty sure the only time they used their lineage against either of them was when either Quan Chi or someone else tried to fuck them over for fighting for Earthrealm or daring to side again NetherRealm, since Edenia is now part of it. As for reptile, it might be worse : Reptile's name of "Syzoth" sounds like "Saizo" if he was "cthulhufied" because you know : Saizo, was the leader of the Koga ninja and servants to the Sanada clan, one of the rival ninja clans of the Iga. It's just...As for Cole, the Donut Steel OC...has Plot Armour powers. This shit really does write itself. The whole damn language descrepency actually reminds me of Tekken 5 and 6, more than JoJo(given that Jotaro is american-japanese and his mother does speak english, plus if his father does tour america often he has to know a bit, and that's how he speaks with Joseph. The meme makers should have picked Kakkyoin, the actual japanese guy who at no point, makes it clear that he knows english, at all.). You know, where you have Raven, the african america ninja speaking only in English, yet he speaks to Kazuya who only speaks in japanese. Yet they both understand each other perfectly. Fucking hilarious. As for Johny Cage, it's a shame since The Miz has actually offered himself to be Johny Cage and he could make it work honestly. And honestly, at this point, Shujinko will be in the sequel, who'll have Mokap as his descendant, both destined to save the world from Onaga. XD Hope you get well better man. Cheers and take care.

Honestly, the Miz would be a lot of fun as Johnny Cage. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the next movie was just the whacky adventures of Mokap and Meat. It would perfectly encapsulate the joke this series has become.

It's been a good two year's later since this movie has been out and you know what I thought about this movie I realized it's so awful it did not age well I my first two Mortal Kombat games I played was Mortal Kombat vs DC UNIVERSE and Mortal Kombat Deception and it been so long since that time I forgot the lore of these characters I remember who they are but I couldn't remember their back story I feel like one of the shills now who said this movie was good the only thing this movie did good was the opening scene with Hanzo and Bi-han this movie is a cash grab and they are managing to make a sequel when this movie barley did well at the box office

I loved your rant / defense for the original 1995 mortal Kombat movie a movie is so much better than this one I don't care anyone says it's the definition of what a video game movie should be made like

When I was 8 I thought MK characters were the sh*t. Now, as an adult, characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile I just find silly. I can't take someone named "Sub-Zero" seriously, lol. They should have just called the characters by their actual names. It's just so cringe otherwise.

I found it ebtertaing enough but I couldn't care less about MK lore or anything like that. Some odd character choices as the villains for sure and Goro went out like a punk. The 95 movie is far more entertaining in my opinion.
