You can see it intercept 2 and hear a 3rd that got through, if I'm not mistaken

This was in 2006, I was directly under this morter attack when it happend. I was on the phone with my home base and had to let them go. I believe this was filmed by the oncoming shift waiting for the bus about half a mile away. I still have this footage on CD added to a video slide show.

Supporting us means working for our success...so we don't have to go back and do it AGAIN. Didn't WW1 leading to WW2 teach you ANYTHING????

I would like to see the faces of a theoretical army invading the U.S. when their first artillery barrage gets blown up mid-flight. I assume it would be similar to this :(

Patriot was never designed to be an anti-missile system. It was designed as THAAD (Theater High level Anti-AIRCRAFT Defence), meant to shoot down heavy bombers like the "Bear" (Similiar to a B-52). That it even managed to hit incoming missiles is a testimony to how exceptionally well it performed. And the one time if failed in that regard, the system had been up for weeks, causing timing problems (since debugged) -- at that time, Patriot was designed to only be up for 3 hours at a time.

The C-RAM that night didn't get all of them, there were about 2-3 that made it through.

Incoming mortar shells from enemies

C-RAM stands for 'Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar' It's a land-based weapon used to destroy incoming projectiles. Think of it as the trophy system from Call of Duty, though the C-RAM is a lot more cool. It uses 20-35mm rounds with some type of coating that destroys the rounds after short time to prevent them dropping onto nearby units. I'm not massively full up on knowledge about this, you can read more about it somewhere.

@azynkron k, just for clarity, i had a broken leg and was messed up on pain pills when i wrote that. i still like the idea, and ya obviously it is a cash cow, it spits 30mm bullets like a water hose. so duh, but i still like the concept.

wow you can actually see how it hits the flying mortar and its debree again as well!

You still should head for the bunker. C-RAM is PRIMARILY an early warning system (alarms) for incomming rounds. The intercept portion isn't 100% effective. Better to be safe than dead.

Wow, wish they had that mortar-interception stuff when I was there. Too many nights' sleeleep disturbed by the sounds of explosions and instantly hopping out of bed for the bunker.

U gotta understand FOBBITS don't know the meaning of bunkers. This video clearly states that, I been on 2 deployments and the mortars that we encountered hit on target all the time.

Everyone in E/1-125 INF knew the meaning of a bunker. And that was before some mortar team had our barracks dialed in.
