What i learned from this short: when loading a mosin, put a little pressure on the first round to rock it back so the loading forces are downward and not slightly forward if you only pressed down on the top round. Common complaint about the mosin is that it sticks on reloading. I think you just showed us all how to avoid that and could make another short just highlighting that technique

I loved my Mosin-Nagant M91/30 (Tula Arsenal 1938). Very accurate, formerly cheap gun and ammo wise, and a fun way to hone one’s field marksmanship, particularly when offhand shooting with the hasty sling technique at 100-yard hanging steel plates. I bought the rifle at a Big 5 Sporting Goods for $179.99 (they would later go on sale at $119.99) and probably went through at least a dozen olive drab cans of surplus Albanian 7.62x54R light ball (440 rounds for $59.99) plus many boxes of Wolf and Bear Russian sporting ammo and one can of Polish surplus heavy ball. Had to part with it and some other guns during a move, but thoroughly enjoyed the many hours on the firing line, and more hours of cleaning and dry firing. Wish I would have picked up an M-38 too.

The longest-serving military firearm ever created. Entered service with the White Army in 1891 (with black powder in the earliest cartridges, though it was designed for smokeless); modified (shortened, bayonet and sight changes, manufacturing simplification) up into the 1940s, still serving in a few places in the 2020s. The Brown Bess didn't serve as long; the Mauser '98 didn't, and the Lee-Enfield didn't. Simplicity is the main reason why. I've got one of these, a 91/30 from 1942, out of the factory and straight to the front I'm sure. Long, heavy, low capacity, not exceptionally accurate (though mine's better than my eyesight with open sights) -- but reliable as hell, powerful enough for any reasonable desire for a battle rifle, and durable. Easy to work on, too; easy to tune, easy to modify. And you can load it to be quiet and have power suitable for squirrel and rabbit hunting, when you don't need it to be a "Russian .308".
