Mashkova street.
Mashkova Street (officially - Mashkova Street; until 1922 - Dobraya Slobodka Street) is a street in the Basmanny district of the Central Administrative District of Moscow. It runs from Chaplygina Street to Sadovo-Chernogryazskaya Street, the numbering of houses starts from Chaplygina Street.
The historical name is from the Dobroya Sloboda of the 17th century. There was another Dobraya Sloboda in the Basmanny district (see Dobroslobodskaya Street). To avoid duplication of names, in 1922 Dobraya Slobodka was renamed Mashkova Street. There was no ideology behind the renaming: the street was named after the adjacent Mashkov Lane (since 1942 - Chaplygina Street). In turn, Mashkov Lane was named after the 18th-century homeowner, Goff-Junker Mashkov. Today, the name of the street is often mistakenly interpreted as “Mashkov Street” by analogy with the memorial names in the genitive case that became common in Soviet times.
The main building of the street is apartment buildings in the Art Nouveau style of the 1900s-1910s. the buildings. Houses 24-28, adjacent to the Garden Ring, are older, from the mid-19th century. The two-story, sometimes wooden, buildings are preserved in the courtyards on the even side of the street.
On the street there is a modern monument - the “egg house”, a four-story mansion with an area of 342 m² designed by S. B. Tkachenko, 1998-2000.
