As the northern half of our Pan-American Highway trip winds down, we're doing a lot of driving. From Whitehorse we headed to Muncho Lake Provincial Park, where I was just blown away with how pretty it was. The hike in Muncho Lake (Red Rock Canyon) was nice but ended early, maybe due to high water. I then drove 8 hours south towards Butler Ridge, which was pretty disappointing with overgrown trails, steep inclines, no views, and SO MANY MOSQUITOS.
Then I got a huge blowout flat tire... luckily on a paved road with plenty of passers-by.
At this point in the trip, I'm in a bit of a rush to make it to Jasper and Banff by early July for my mom's birthday, then off to Nebraska for summer work in mid-July. I'm sad I couldn't explore northern BC more!
Kayla, (me) Barley (black and white border collie), and Niffler (blue merle border collie) are driving the Pan-American Highway in Saga the Sprinter Van. The Pan-American Highway stretches from the Arctic Ocean to Patagonia; we took a slightly different route by going to Tuktoyaktuk instead of Prudhoe Bay. This different route allowed us to take the dogs all the way to the shores of the ocean. We spent the summer solstice near the Arctic Circle and area heading south to Patagonia starting in October or November 2022.
Kayla works remotely as a dog behavior specialist at Journey Dog Training and runs the nonprofit K9 Conservationists. You can learn more about all of those projects at K9Conservationists.org and JourneyDogTraining.com.
