Amazing! That picture of pupils at Princess Road School: l remember Ray Petrie very well. Attended Great Western Street Methodist Youth Club. Circa 1952-53. Also Keith Chatterton, too. My folks had a grocery shop, 100 Great Western Street.

Nice, memories of the past. My Grandparents owned the Bakery near Princess Road Bus Depot (A+M Booth, Bakers and Confectioners), now i believe a Bicycle shop. My Mother was born there in the upstairs rooms when they lived above the shop before they bought a house directly behind the shop on Princess Road at 164 Hartington Street. I had my first pint in the Claremont on Claremont Road when I was a teenager.

I lived there from 1932- 59. went to Princess road school. Went dancing as teenager at Cowans on Raby street, No jiving this is a ballroom.Chorlton Baths too. I've lived in Michigan since 1968 Clinton township just outside Detroit. Lots and lots of trees forests. As a kid I never saw a tree, maybe Alexandra Park.

I remember Mrs Booth she was a lovely lady used to work in the shop on her own. Often used to give me a free cake xx We used to get a chocolate cake with a walnut in the centre every week from her. I can still smell the shop. I remember the big fella with the white bakers hat coming from the back of the shop with more goodies. I was born around the corner from here (1952) and moved when I was 10 years old. Happy days, I remember the old retired Jamaicans chaps used to sit on their door steps all day just talking and laughing. Every one of them had a suit on and a trilby ... nice guys They introduced me to mango and goat meat. Billy dutches fruit veg and poultry ... remember that one ? 😉 ...

Thank you for these images, in black and white seems to make them atmospheric somehow. Born in Wellington Street (long demolished 1968) off Great Western St (still with us, apart from the pub wholly different). Remember some nice houses on Claremont Road , tall and slim were sadly demolished .

@@MrManc55 no I didn’t … I grew up in Chorlton-on-Medlock but back in the 1950’s and 60’s our little gang roamed all over Moss Side ,Hulme ,Ardwick,Longsight Rusholme ,Levenshulme , Burnage, Ladybarn , Withington , Wythenshawe , Ringway , Cheadle and Gatley , Didsbury , (east & west) Gorton, Belle Vue , So I probably had a better outlook on life than you do … you come over as very narrow minded, I grew up with mates who were black, white, yellow, catholic, protestant,Jewish,Islamic and Buddhist … we supported teams such as Man City,Man United,Oldham Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County … we didn’t always agree with each other but we always enjoyed the banter and the piss taking … we had some of the best times of our lives and some of us are still friends to this day …. So no I didn’t grow up in The Moss … I grew up and Matured in Manchester and I’m proud of my City …..
