I want to emphasize that only a small minority of people in Mendoza, or elsewhere in Argentina, earn in foreign currencies like USD, EUR, etc. and benefit from the currency exchange. The vast majority (locals) earn in Argentine pesos and are experiencing a decline in their purchasing power because their salaries don’t keep up with the inflation. So for those earning in stable foreign currencies, things are more affordable due to the favorable dollar blue exchange rate. You can check the current “informal rate” here: bluedollar.net

My husband and I are considering leaving Canada for many different reasons. We are considering a handful of countries in Latin America, and we are constantly binge watching videos from Expats/Digital Nomads. That being said, most videos that we've come across considering the cost of living in different cities have been disappointing to say the least. Well, not this one. You actually take the time to explain everything properly., give nuance. , show a decent amount of examples. Cover most important things to be considered, give enough details (without turning into something overwhelming) and provide links so that we can do our own research I truly appreciated this video. Thank you very much! I hope your channel grows bigger and bigger every day . I wish you nothing but success and lots of blessings to you and your family. .

Are there any areas in particular (?) that a US old single retired expat can rent a frugal studio (cheap) and get by with very little Spanish ? My Spanish sucks - but I could use a handheld translator ? Hopefully as I am around it being spoken - it will improve ? Good quality affordable food would be best - somewhere in Mendoza ? --- The culture is really something I want to experience ! > I admire the food especially and beef in particular. Hopefully the new President can help the people and the country in the near future. -- I have a modest Social Security retirement check every month of $1525 USD until death - with cost of living increases each year. Hope it would be enough with health insurance and blood pressure meds. each month ? A budget of about $1200 would be preferred in order to save some. --?-- What say you ??? 🤔 THANK YOU for the opinion. 🙏

Hi Frank! Mendoza could be a great choice for other retirees I know. My partner and I moved here two years ago with basic Spanish. He was the only one working remotely, and we managed on $700/month. We initially stayed in a $250/month rental, but it became too costly for little space. Luckily, we found a semi-furnished place in the city center for $100/month on a 3-year lease. It includes parking and is just a few minutes walk to shops, with only utility bills and management fees to cover. You can get by with a translator, and there’s an English-Spanish community that meets nightly at Believers Pub. It’s a great way to socialize and get settled, plus your Spanish will improve. The beef here is excellent, though we mostly cook at home since dining out often disappoints. Seafood is always frozen, so there’s a day of the week where it comes “fresh”. We buy fresh ingredients from Mercado Central or Parrillada 13 Trozadero and cook at home as it’s more affordable. Also, there are some eateries offer healthy meals priced by weight, which I find affordable and decent. For rentals, the city center, Godoy Cruz, Guaymallén, and Chacras de Coria are good options. Quinta Sección is relatively safe, but avoid Las Heras, Villanueva, and Barrio San Martin. If you get health insurance here, you might receive 40% discounts on pharmacy meds, depending on the plan. I think that $1200 USD is more than enough for a single person living here, considering that the locals who are earning less than $600-$800 still live comfortably.

@@CavernSaga ❤👍🙏 Thank you so much for that detailed answer ! City center sounds ideal for my liking - perhaps a lease long term for about $150 would be ideal for me ? Health insurance a must + an English speaking Dr. (MD) would be nice - if possible ? Would enjoy the "Believers Pub" and likely go often ! --- Again - THANK YOU so much - I haven't been able to find anyone with Mendoza info. ---- The climate (weather) - the low cost of living - the culture - and the size of the city - just seems like an ideal retirement destination for me. ( ? ) 🤔

@@KB3TLE You’re welcome! It’s these information I wish I had known before coming here. Happy to share them😄 If you have a definite plan of making Mendoza your long term stay, then it’s ideal to find a 2-3 year lease as the rent is cheaper, the downside is, they might need you to find a guarantor or 2 (usually working, with good salary and has DNI) apart from the deposit they will be asking. There are also some $300-500 fully furnished rentals available but it’s typically for short term to a year lease. Finding an English speaking doctor is tricky, if you need help, you can join Mendoza Expat Whatsapp group where are share relevant info: chat.whatsapp.com/L9s2n1AOkxCAvrDGYccj5W Hope it helps, goodluck!

@@Regularguylive There are lots if you adjust the filter. Remember, when renting long term (2-3 years lease), the price stays constant every year and last year, I paid $50USD per month before the price adjusted again to around $120. If I had to retire in Argentina, my best bet would be in Mendoza city too! It doesn't rain much, and the water source comes from the mountains, I can guarantee it's a fresh supply. Summers are hot and can exceed 30°C. Despite the heat, the air is dry rather than humid.

I was curious until I looked at the crime data on Numbeo. Not a safe place to be. Safety index is only 34 out of 100. What are your on the ground thoughts? Is the crime easy to avoid, i.e. it being only in obvious parts of town? Like if you went to Chicago USA, there are places that you can go to easily avoid crime
@CavernSaga
Ай бұрын
It's definitely a subjective topic. Crime can happen, even in other places around the world. While statistics from sources like Numbeo provide a general idea, firsthand experience in Mendoza adds a different perspective. I've lived in Mendoza for 2 years and haven't had any problems myself, but I know others who had their phones stolen. The important thing is to be cautious. There are police patrols, which adds a sense of security. Avoid sketchy areas at night, keep valuable things out of sight in public, and try not to carry too many valuable items when you're out and about.
