Taryl, when it comes to passing on knowledge about repairing all sorts of small engine driven machines you are "The Man". You have the best site by far when it comes to passing on how to repair and troubleshoot this equipment, so much better than anything else on the internet. You make the manufacturer sites look like kindergarten and you have fun showing us to do the repairs. There is nothing like a man with the knowledge and practical experience to teach someone how to do something. Keep up the good and fun work!

I have learned about Kohler Command engines which I have a 16 horse power. I own a Dixon 4516 and she is pretty good for grass cutting. I've recently tuned it up with a gas filter, air filter kit, a spark plug, and four tires. Could use blades, belts, and pulley's looked at too. Your videos are A+ #1 for us do it yourselfer's. You have a unique sense of humor and a host of loony tune folk to pull it off. Kudos to Taryl, Taryl Jr., Slippers, and crew for a good time had by all.

My 2007 craftsman 46 inch has been mowing my 2 acres roughly every 10 days or so for 12 years. It does more than mow for me, it pulls down dead timber, drags logs and hauls my loaded down garden trailer all over the place. That 540cc briggs intek has been a work horse and is still going strong. I've definitely gotten my moneys worth from that little red tractor.

On any gravity feed fuel supply, i always install a tap and let the engine run itself out of gas then switch it off. The needle/seats in any fixed carb will eventually weep/leak and fill the crankcase even with good servicing; better to be safe and isolate the fuel supply. Plus as Taryl says, the new fuel with ethanol can be caustic on lines ect and little weed whackers, so i always empty the carb before turn off as they sit for a while and mowers too. Its the little things you can do that will make small engines so much easier to use and less headaches. Great Channel, best out there as he gives so many ideas and tricks to help the home user service his mowers.
@stevee7774

Great idea, I always do the same with my JD riding mower, after cutting I shut the fuel valve and drive it to the shed with the fuel that remains in the bowl, by the time I get there it runs the carb dry and I store it till next time with a dry carb. Never have any problems doing it that way.

Taryl, you are so good! My mommer's John Deere has the Intek engine with the plaskit plentum. Twice now, the old gas has gummed up the carbitrator wear the sillinoid shuts off the gas. There is a white plaskit plug that the sillinoid pulls back to let the gas in, but when it's gummed up, it just sets there. She'll run all day if yore spraying carb cleener in, but just won't run on her own till you free up that plaskit thang operated by the sillinoid. You know, I used to think the Krohler engines was the cat's pajamas, but I see now you've had all kinds of truble with 'em. Keep up the good work my friend. Thanks for that very important post! I’m so glad that I have two of your favorite engines. I got a new Husqavarna tractor, and only had 15 hours on it. I mowed half my acre yard, and I couldn’t start it again. It was just like something broke in the engine. I could turn the engine by hand 1 partial revolution each way. Then it felt like it was hitting something solid. I pushed it in the shed, and after a week, it started just fine. It smelled a little rich, so do you think it could be a leaking needle and seat? Or could it be the valves are outta adjustment? I’m still making payments on it, and I don’t know whether to fight to get my money back, or let it go in for service. You know that I’m more likely not gonna see it till next year

Another great video! I kinda wish I hadn't watched this though since now I expect my 10 year old single cylinder Intek to blow up in the middle of the night, in my garage, while I'm sleeping and burn my house down. Back when I was stupid (just earlier today) and didn't know it was a crappy engine it's run flawlessly for more than a decade but now, thanks to you educating me, I'll be lucky if it doesn't kill me by week's end. On the bright side I called my wife and told her Taryl said I should get a new mower. She said "who the hell is Taryl?". I know, I know, I'm embarrassed too. I also have an old Tecumseh HH100 engine that’s been pretty good except for a leaky carb and a Honda gx140 I think it is and that one seems bulletproof. The only Briggs engines I’ve ever worked on has just been push mowers. I also had a Kohler courage 20 engine and I have tried and tried and tried again on that stupid leaky valve cover and I can’t get that thing to stop. I’ve done new gaskets I’ve done your thing and nothing. Makes me wonder if it’s not flat somewhere. Great video love the channel definitely a go to for me when I’m questioning something.

This is an old thread but hopefully you'll get a notification of my question. I've got a JD Z4445 Zero Turn ( Kohler ...erm Krowler :) ) Fourth time Ivè used it this Summer, with all the rain we've had in Alberta the lawn has gotten out of control so needless to say the mower is humping hard. Was running perfectly every time I used it ...until yesterday. It went from perfect to sputtering and farting intermittently, no knock, no mechanical issue sounds. Starts just fine with a little choke, No run on when it gets shut off, Fuel - full - fuel filter - clean - Air cleaner - clean - Spark plug - new last week. Any suggestions? I've got an L120 to use for now but it`s only 48`cut and the Z4445 is 54`so there`s a 6 hr difference in cutting time so kinda need to fix this sucker. Keep up the great vids but keep your eye on that Slipper character..I think he`s shifty as F&?K and up to something.. Peace from the great white north. PS ..Id like to get some more power out of this engine if possible without having to upgrade this JD to a bigger model ..Any suggestions there

I would add one thing for the opposed twin. Later models with the 4-screw pump; pilot jet restricted. Caused surging on MANY of them. Needing to take apart carburetor halves and poke a wire though the pilot (idle) jet. Usually required replacement of the carburetor body gasket.
