The common misconception is that the physical size of a fuse is a determining factor related to its capacity. What actually determines the capacity is the conductivity of the metal used in the fuse. If fuses were made of pure copper, aluminum, silver, etc, then size would be relevant. But they're made of an alloy whose conductivity is determined by varying the amounts of conductive ingredients in the mix. One way to look at it is to think about how a specific gauge OFC wire can carry more current than the same gauge CCA wire. Copper is a better conductor than Aluminum, so it takes less Cu than Al to conduct a given amount of current. To get equal capacity from a CCA wire, it needs to be physically larger than an OFC wire. A physically smaller fuse is made of a more conductive alloy than a larger fuse with the same rating to allow more current to pass through its smaller element.

One thing to note also, the fuse holder can also handle only as much current before getting overheated, friend got an smd fuse block, 4 anl fuses is what it fits, he ran something like 10kw on it, it got lit on fire due to heat, so that is also something to keep in mind, also fuse breakers also do work, shame almost nobody uses them, much simpler than popping in and out, screwing them in and unscrewing fuses

Great presentation! But one thing you forgot to mention, is the Mini ANL holder capable of accepting 1/0 (zero) gauge cable? Where as the full size ANL fuse holder is, and in that configuration you can also get them with holes bored in them to accept the cable directly eliminating the need for crimp on lugs.

I love 'em. Got the Skar M9005D in my Ranger ext cab, and in my wife's Highlander. They're so small I was able to mount hers in the dash behind the head unit and a/c panel. Pushing some 6.75" components in the front doors, 6.75" 2-ways in the rear doors, and a single 10" sub in back. Going to put a second one in my truck to run 4 6×8s, 2 8s, and a 15. @@michaelmiller7350 I guess they're considered more of an "entry level" thing. I don't really know. I've run multi-amp setups before in vans or older cars with huge trunks, but it just ain't my thing anymore. Stealth and sound quality win for me. I'm getting a little stupid with my truck, but not enough to shake it apart. It was right on the verge of "good enough" with the one 5channel and the 10. Now it's gonna be a tad more than "good enough", lol. But the volume knob turns both ways.

You know you can just use circuit breakers and be good to go. When it pops just fix the blown crap or short and reset. No more fuses :D Its a life changer in my RV and I have one on each of my amps in there as well as the inverter which draws WAY more power than an amp. no probs

This is true. The only negative thing I can find about circuit breakers, is how many imitations have flooded the market. So you really need to know what brands are reputable. Aside from that, I agree they are excellent choice. 🤟

@@BudgetBassHead good point. There is a lot of garbage on scamazon and fleabay but I used the stinger ones and they are great. Also if you need more amps, you run 2,3,4...etc in parallel to get more amps. thats what I did, I used 4 of em with my 1200ah lifepo4 bank. I noticed they also have WAY less voltage drop than fuses did which probably has to do with the current not having to go over thin foil

Nice breakdown. I don’t use fuses though. I use circuit breakers. I just like them better. Every power wire has multiple breakers. Between alt and underhood battery. Between said battery and firewall. Then before the trunk batteries. And between batteries and amps. So four on each wire from the alt to the rear. What’s your opinion on using breakers and how I’ve set mine up.

What in the world size of wire can handle 300 amps?! a 4/0 wire can only handle 230 amps. A normal 1/0 wire (0 gauge) can handle 150 amps. I've never seen a wire bigger than 2/0 used in car audio and they can only handle 175 amps.
@I_Count_Twice

Quite a few ofc 1/0 wires can take that. An example would be if you check out the chart for knuconceptz brand wire, the max load at 20ft for their bassik cca 1/0 is 200A, KCA 1/0 is 250A, Kolossus ofc 1/0 is 375A. Their 4/0 ofc cable is rated to handle a max of 700A at 20ft. Brand and how the wire is made makes a lot of difference. Keep bassin', friend. 👍
