Djoko literally ran himself into the ground with these drop shots, clearly they weren't working but he was persistent, thats why he lost if IMO

This was a mixture of weather(these matches are normally played in April/May…so the courts were as slow as you could get..Medvedev was on a heater at this point and is truly a counter punching baseline that can redirect his opponents pace and keep the ball flat, rather than rally with him joker figured his drop shot opportunities would be more effective overall if he had converted a few more he could have swung enough momentum to win.

I think this is mostly the weather conditions that lead to this amount of dropshots. People who play tennis understand that playing in windy conditions is a struggle, you have to hit harder and flatter to get a decent pace to your shots. The ball trajectory and bounce is also affected and usually the balls stay low so dropshots feel very natural to play. This being said this was probably a very difficult match to watch for most

The player who hit the first drop shot in each point (not counting volleys) won 17 out of 36 points. Not a very good percentage considering most were hit on an easy ball when the opponent was out of position.

Not only this match, I see way more drop shot on clays than other surface. Is it my illusion or could anyone help me explain why?
@breadcyclone

On clay there's usually a lot of baseline play and long rallies, so dropshots can be really effective to throw the opponent's rhythm off in these types of situations, especially when they're expecting a very deep ball

I would have hated watching this match. I don't go to tennis matches to watch numerous dropshots. I want to see a rally, skill and the ability to put a point together. Yeah, we all attempt a dropshot but this was excessive.
