Can we all agree that European horse racing commentary leaves a lot to be desired compared to US and Aus race calling. It's lifeless. From production to race commentary. All 4 of those races felt dead

Horses for courses, I guess. If I'm watching US racing I mute it because I don't particularly like it. Australasian commentry is what I'm accustomed to so preference comes down more to individuals. For these 4 races, there is very little in any of them that happens before final moves. There aren't a lot of mid-race moves. None of the leaders streak away to a 15L lead. I don't want 2.5 miles of contrived excitement under those circumstances especially. I don't like it in any race because it's incongruent, so I definitely don't want just under 4.5 minutes of it. But that's just me.

I was a press photographer that day and got covered in his snot out on the course, after the race as he walked past the stands lol. He just showered me. A real honour to see him up close. I still have the suit.

The way he pulled away and powered home in the third win was amazing. He looked in big trouble 3 furlongs from home but in reality he was just getting going

Yet, he ran a poor race in the Melbourne Cup - couldn't carry the weight. He may have had a statue built at Ascot for him and he ran like one in the great race.

I'm not sure Sec ever ran on turf. But how about the Grand National, 4 and a half miles jumping over 30 hedges? Of course, these horses are geldings, and can race at 8 or 9 or 10 years old. The courses are different also. Not oval, like in the states, with uphills and downhills.

@@brucerobbins6528 For the record, Secretariat easily won two races on turf, the Man o' War Stakes and the Canadian International. Both were G1 races against the best turf horses in North America at the time.
