The lack of a color display with red zone for clipping and above, plus a second headphone jack connector are the things that make me hesitate for purchasing it to replace my old 828mk3. I have no doubt about the sound quality. Cuemix5 seems a major update. I like the various headphone mix this allows.

I just bought it and compared it to 828es, and to me MK5 beats it in clarity of sound, and preamp quality. Pull a trigger on that purchase, I think you won't regret it. This interface sounds way better than 828es (to me), so much cleaner and without being harsh. AND 828es will sound so much better than your 828mk3 You get the pattern. MK5 uses Burr Brown preamps and ES9026PRO DAC chip, the implementation of that chip on this unit is wonderful

If you are on Mac, go to AudioMidi setup in Utility folder, then create an « agregate device », decide which is master, then it’s done. Select this agregated combo as your audio-midi device in your Daw.

Hi! I cannot find in any web site any information concerning latency runing VSTs under DAWs like Cubase, ProTools. I saw some latency tests suing a guitar ou Mic plugged into UltraLite MK5 as audio only. But when you open a Cubase and play 2 or 3 VST plugins and a midi keyboard controller those latency numbers change COMPLETELY!! From 2.3ms it goes up to 9 or 12ms. That's the problem. If you pick a 128 samples bufer and 44kHz what number could you expect under a DAW? MOTU does not show this information regarding VSTs and latency.

Very good question. Right now we do not know the answer to that specific one. They just started shipping, so hopefully the knowledge base will now quickly grow and there will be more information out there.

What should I get for the best conversion quality, Antelope Zen go or Motu ultralight mk5 or babyface pro fs? Please comment...

We would say in our opinion it would rank Antelope, Motu, Babyface in that order.

@@burnsrobe if you really want a half rack unit for around that price everyone forgets the MOTU 624 is a thing. You also get to use MOTU Pro software with it instead of being limited to cuemix with mk5. There is also the MOTU AVB unit as well.

MOTU 624 and MOTU AVB units show up for a where from $400 - $700 online every once in a while. If I found either for less than $550 that means the ultralite mk5 is a tough sell. The real issue is the mk5 being limited to cuemix 5 software which in the latest update is much better and you can do routing in a workaround type of way, but is no where near as powerful as the matrix grid in Motu Pro which is what you use for the 624 and the AVB units. Also you get AVB in both of them for future expansion instead of having to rely on ADAT.
@kaislate

If you ADAT two of these together could you use the USB connection to two different computers and have access to all inputs from both mk5 on each computer simultaneously? The only device I know that does this is the iconnectivity audio4c, but I need more than 4 inputs.
@Pixelproaudio
2 жыл бұрын
That would be a crazy set up! Not sure that could work, but if others know they can chime in. I imagine this could be tested by existing units of this type if you had them around. You mention needing more than 4 inputs, and the MK5 has 8 line ins.
@kaislate
2 жыл бұрын
@@Pixelproaudio Yes, I meant 8 low latency on both computers as well as each computers own audio (Ableton, pro producer, etc) available to both computers. I know this can be done with patch splitters and voicemeeteer, but there's mixmatched latency with that solution. Syncing everything is generally a nightmare regardless it seems, but two MK5 units link together with individual USB access to/from each computer would be great. Yeah, I'm not sure if this is possible. I've really only seen this on the audio4c and modern DJ mixers. The audio4c makes all 4 analog channels available to both PCs that are connected with their own USb connection at the same time. It then gives the audio from one computer to the other on a virtual channel 5/6. The same goes from the second computer back to the first and it also shows up as 5/6. Pretty much requires individual sound cards inside the unit for each USB connection. With regard to ADAT it seems like the ADAT connection switches the connected unit into a ports only type mode and disables all "host" features of that unit. I doubt anything would happen at all trying to use the USB connection of the second unit. Or it might consistently put it into standalone mode, and then back into ADAT slave continually. Either way this doesn't allow access to all inputs and outputs of both devices simultaneously on both computers. If anyone knows a way of accomplishing this yes please let us know.

Question here, by connecting the adat, does the line inputs get sacrificed somehow? thanks
@Pixelproaudio
3 жыл бұрын
Nope, the 8 channels you get through the adat are additional! You get 18 total inputs; 8 Line ins, 8 via adat, then finally a stereo input on the optical S/PDIF.

@Pixelproaudio

That depends on your setup. If you have lots of preamps and need tons of analog I/O, the MOTU will do the job! If you only need 2-4 inputs and like the Antelope modeling (which we definitely do), then I'd get the Zen Go. It's also worth noting that the monitor outputs on the Zen Go are almost indiscernible from the Pure2 mastering converter. -David
