Hot boxing had a totally different meaning in high school. This is a much more productive method than that was!

I’m not sure about the science but it does make a lot of sense to separate your tested successful lures from those that you have no proof that a fish will like it.

I just discovered that theory. Last week on lake huron I ran 3 of the same spoons. The one that has previously caught fish was the only spoon getting hit. The only one. Great advice. I'll start my hot box today. Also, I'm new to salmon fishing and you have helped me catch more fish. Thank you. Keep up the great content!

Just rub the new spoons, hooks, beads and flies on a salmon you catch. Then they are all smelly

I’m one of those guys that looked at Russell sideways when I first heard him talk about his amino acids from a fish’s mouth theory. It sounded goofy to me. Now, after thinking about it, I’m not so sure. I’ve had the experience of catching a couple fish on a certain spoon...putting out more spoons of that same pattern...then still catching most of my fish on the original spoon. It doesn’t always happen that way...but enough to where it’s noticeable. And if you think about it, how do salmon find the right stream to spawn in after four years out in the big lake? Scientists say it’s partly by sensing the magnetic fields of the earth, and partly by smell. Well, that’s one hell of a sniffer to be able to distinguish molecules of water from their home river from the scent of the lake water, then to follow that scent to its source. If salmon can do that, could they also be able to detect molecules of scent on a lure? I don’t know, but maybe Russell’s theory isn’t so far fetched as I originally thought. Maybe it’s something to look at a little more closely.

Interesting. I've watched other videos with different Charter Captains you had on your show. And Some say to wash lures with Joy dish soap after catching a Salmon or Trout, particularly spoons. But they use scents on there lures after washing them. Great video Russell, as usual!

Hey Russell, how’s the laker bite been down by you? Up in Kewaunee (trying to get out between storms) I’ve been trying from 15’ to 70’ with no luck. Not even marking any.
