Lol this video is way off about the Panhandle. The Panhandle is the most important part of the state. As a Pensacola Native the city is technically the oldest town in America. It was founded by the Spanish in 1559 but was later destroyed from a hurricane. Then later they came back and founded St. Augustine in 1565. Pensacola is the most important city in the state of Florida. Because it is where Florida was founded it was conquered by five nations. Which is why it’s called the city of five flags. it was actually at one time the capital along with St.Augustine. Long before Tallahassee was even thought of and founded. The city has the most battles then any city in Florida. Now regarding the purchase of the Panhandle alot of what you said is wrong. It was actually the other way around. In 1869 Alabama was the first one to offer to purchase it from Florida for $1 million. However the reason why the deal did not go through was because my hometown oppose against it. Alabama wanted Pensacola all the way to the Apalachicola River. They were trying to expand there border and they was going to tax us to pay the debt off lol. But thank God that did not happen because I love being a Floridian.

Pensacola is the oldest and most important city in Florida. I live two towns over. The downtown area is nice and we have the port, but we also have a lot of hospitals that you'll wait at for 3 hours for crutches and ace bandages.

Other than Spain controlling Florida, I don’t think i heard anything like you said regarding that area.. Spain traded it to Britain for Cuba who split it into West and East Florida. West Florida’s territory went to the Isles of New Orleans. Both Florida’s were the only British Colonies to not go along with the other 13 colonies in the Declaration of Independence. When Spain took back the Louisiana territory it had given to France, it also claimed part of West Florida was part of that but the people living their did not want to be part of Spain and wanted to become a US State but the US just moved troops in and took it, incorporating it into the new State of Alabama. Spain was involved in other conflicts and was unable to do anything about it.

Florida panhandle is also the best part of the entire state of Florida, also I live about an hour drive away of Pensacola. I expect a lot of Swifties to flood to Destin very soon, since their favorite pop singer dropped the town's name.

Proud resident of the 850! Despite the “major cities” all being in the eastern part, there’s so much historical and current significance in the Gulf Coast/panhandle section. To start, we literally have the state’s oldest city and its capital city.
