we also use colors in Scandinavia-some more than others, but it certainly don't have to be all white, wood and beige it's mostly about less is more, functional , don't be afraid of empty spaces , not every wall need furniture or paintings sometimes a plant is enough, airy spaces, little or no window dressing, wood floors, natural materials in general and it can be light, medium or dark wood, linen, stone, leather ect, often colors are used in big paintings, or a chair/sofa, or a rug, but you can also have colored walls or pillows but usually you won't have all of it keep it simple and not a lot of pattern if any it's simple, mixing old and new is popular and most Scandinavian have some kind of mid century modern mixed in -lamps or a chair ect. but there are actually more than one kind of Scandinavian style, we have our more rustic, more plain modern, more classic and new nordic/organic

Mid-century modern was what was coming into style as I was growing up. My family home had a hodgepodge of traditional and a little 'modern' which was starting then. I fell for mid-century modern (MCM) and got a Lane hope chest in teakwood in MCM style. It was unique and it set me on a path that I'm still on today. This was helpful, I usually struggle to describe design styles in my writing. It also made me think of spaces I've been in that are a combination of styles. My mother's house is absolutely glam/coastal, my place has elements of mid-century modern, industrial and Bohemian. Almost all my furniture comes from curbside collection but it's all very clean, modern stuff.

I grew up the 50s and 60s with Danish Modern ( teak) furniture. I love the Scandinavian style and the Mid Century Modern style. I also really like the look of the Zen style. My husband and I will be moving soon two stars away so we are not taking any furniture that we don’t love! Looking forward to buying some things that are really me! Thanks for the video. It clarified some things for me.

I found your channel a few hours ago...subcribed and am now binge watching. I'd say my design style leans towards mid-century modern/scandinavain with a few antique, yet streamlined, pieces sprinkled in.

I'm glad I watched this. I never really knew what to call my style. I am and always have been a traditional type stylist. I like it. In my opinion, it looks clean, a little expensive and color calming.

It'd be cool to have a "Define My Style" segment where people submit pictures of their home to you and you pick one or a few to discuss on your channel. Yes, this is self serving because I don't know what my style is. I call it "Mad Scientist/Apothecary Chic" 😅

I know this is years old but it's still really interesting and relevant. Some of the styles really resonate with me and I'm learning. I like japandi/boho/natural modern styles. As you said in this vid scandi style is here to stay!
