I personally think Lexus is the way to go if you want longevity and reliability and build quality. Much better than the very expensive German options.

The interior seems pretty standard, for $100K they could’ve done better I reckon, bit of a let down. Was expecting more.

I didn’t drive that spec. Would make sense if you want an RX and don’t want to spend overs.

At least it will last longer than the warranty period of “those” other 3 brands.

No full size spare is a show stopper. The 350 can squeeze one in but you compromise on a lot of other things for it.

If I had to choose which one to spend roughly $100k on i would probably go for the Genesis GV80 Coupe

Good point mate. The coupe is a cool looking GV80. I just handed back the pre-updated Genesis GV80 SUV and can’t wait to bring coverage of the updated one.

The problem with the genesis though is that it isn't really popular in the Australian market atm which I feel will hurt its resale value.@@therightcar

I am not a mechanic, I'm a car reviewer. I'm telling people the cars they should consider if they're thinking about this particular new car. I won't change that.

I was considering a base RX, which has an 8 speed auto. The interior is a bit Grey everywhere for my liking looks like a Camry interior, I'd have to buy a beige cardigan. I think I'll stick to my 5 year old VW Touareg which has averaged 6.9 litres per 100 km over 75,000 km.

Both RX and NX these gen are gonna be seen everywhere on the road. There are heaps of reasons why you would buy them. I've tried the NX350 (2.5T) and the RX 350h, and they both remind you Lexus >_

An excellent and honest review of an expensive SUV. I’m with you about the design, it doesn’t impress me, indoors or out. No doubt the Lexus is superbly made and high quality. Perhaps expensive to buy, maintain and operate with fuel costs as they are, albeit hybrid. I wonder how long hybrids will last in the motoring world? Burning fuel and charging a battery, not much help from the battery outside urban centres I suspect. Not for me, but a great review as always.

Thanks Greg. You’re bang on mate. Hybrids, though, I think will be a vital player for the next 20 years, at least in Australia.

Plain Grey or black interiors look, well plain. The coloured leather options for interiors give them a big lift, and Lexus do offer different combo's. I think at that spend, nothing should be plain to give it that luxury feel. An enjoyable review as you do :-)

No hate, and no problem. It’s just that if I worked hard to spend $100k on a car I wouldn’t want it to be the same as a taxi.

It looks ordinary, as in nothing special when parked next to a Peugeot, Renault, MG or maybe Nissan. It also lacks the standard features in higher trims of those models. I would cross shop Genesis, Mercedes or something like a top model CX90.

Fair enough! Although I would say that this Lexus is a far more livable car than the hybridised version of the Mazda CX 60

The interior is a mess and is about two generations behind the Europeans and South Koreans. Far too messy with a mix of colours and textures. A base model Kia or Hyundai look far more luxurious.
