This was previously a full road crossing, with four longer barriers and without the metal gates blocking three quarters of the road. The original crossing was installed somepoint in the 1970s / 1980s to replace manual gates, and remained a road crossing up until the 1990s. With the construction of a bypass bridge over the railway less than 100 metres away, the crossing became pedestrianised and was then no longer used by road traffic. The original crossing lights, barriers and alarms remained in situ for a further approximately 15 years or so, before two of the barriers being removed entirely and the other two barriers shortened to match the width of the path over the tracks. The original four white-border warning lights and two alarms were not touched and remarkably remained standing on my visit in September 2022, and at least 36 years old on the date of filming. It is believed these are the last original white-border warning lights to exist on a main line railway level crossing, making this particular crossing one of the most unique in the whole of the country (in my opinion).
Thanks For Watching!
