Hyraladen T indeed, you didn’t pour chemicals into the ocean! Or put your plastic into the ocean! But think of this: we are the consumers, we have much more power than we think. Big companies are not going to change a thing because they want their money. And we provide their Money. So if we are interested in other products, they change their products. You choose what fuel you use, how much you use. You dicide where you buy your clothes (fast fashion is the second most polluting (with chemicals and plastics) after the fuel Industrie. You choose what foods you buy, what cosmetics etc. We can definitely do something. If we think the way you do, it’s easy, we can just sit on our lasy as, go to Mac Donald’s of kfc, fly 2 hours to a place for a weekend, being actively polluting and endangering living beings, including our selves. The plastic in the ocean is eaten by fish, and it has been proven that that plastic has been eaten by fish on our plates. You can definitely do something. At least you can say to your children or grandchildren “I tried to help the world as well, but sadly it wasn’t enough” Could you look your future family in the eye and say you didn’t do a thing to make a difference?

The first time I watched this full episode, it really disturbed me deeply to my core. I sat there watching this mother animal unable to let go of her infant, as I looked over at my own 96 hour old infant, and with tears pouring down my face couldn't even begin to fathom her grief, her pain, her anguish, her defeat, her loss... What I COULD grasp was her connection, her need, her protective instinct, her commitment to her baby. Some people(dumbass ignorant imbeciles) say that animals can't/don't have feelings *-scoffs-* but life experience and what I LIKE to think is the rather impressive level of intellect I possess, I know as sure as the sun will rise that animals ABSOLUTELY CAN & DO feel, connect, empathize, sense, and process emotions, some probably on a more profound depth than the aforementioned people... As my children become adults and bring their own children into the world, I desperately hope that by then, a major global shift will have taken place and moved towards a more efficient and successful and respectful use of our natural world and the beings within it... For my children and their children and so on, for them to maybe never see a wild polar bear or tiger or any other threatened species because us humans have destroyed all of the wonder this Earth offers with our greed, ignorance and disregard, well... that just breaks my heart so badly... *Cue Michael Jackson's "Heal the World"* Bob Marley said: "when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will finally know peace"... So there's that.

Excellent. It took me days to get the courage up to watch this and while this clip of film did a great job of showing the feelings of grief the whales have, I love how the focus drifting directly at the most likely cause of the problem: US and our disregard for these magnificent creatures’ home down to a microscopic home for others. We know too little about the sea to act like it. Please stop scenes like this and the next time you feel like casually throwing your cigarette butt into the water when you are done smoking, think of this baby calf and the family of whales that were effected. We need to make a change or we will kill off these beautiful animals who may be the cure to cancer for all we know. Please care as if your life depended on it, because it may.

I agree it is sad and heartbreaking to see a mother whale dragging her dead baby. I agree with plastic and human impact being a huge contributing factor to the destruction of this planet. However, i do not believe it is right to imply the causes of the babies death being from the mother's contaminated milk. Have there been studies on these animals that those toxins have affected those animals glands? How do they know? It's like going to a funeral of a stranger and saying, "Maybe they were drinking and driving and thats why they died." How dare BBC trivialize and make up some heartbreaking story over an animal's pain and suffering.
@Automatonable
6 жыл бұрын
This is a documentary, not a scientific study. I’m certain BBC would not speculate as to the cause unless milk toxicity does indeed happen and could have been the cause. In a program like this they don’t have time to explain everything, if you question their argument why don’t you reach out and ask or do your own research. By sitting in the comments section and complaining you are doing nothing to help.
@kalaninuiakau
6 жыл бұрын
Automatonable as someone who does helps in research and volunteers in ocean cleanup intiatives, i have seen marine animals choked to death from plastic, poisoned by oils and debris in marina areas, i have seen enough and continue to see the human destruction of nature in our oceans first hand eye witness to such tragedies. So don't act like you know me just because i am commenter on a youtube video. This video blatantly makes a claim without any proof whatsoever that the mother's milk is contaminated. This is how fake news is created and spreads. Making up claims that may or may not be true based solely on speculation. I would expect a BBC documentary to have some objectivity in presenting facts over just speculation.
@dsl996
6 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of studies out there that show the toxin levels in the blood streams of marine animals. It is also known that many substances cross into the young through the mother's milk and indeed toxins can pass through this method. So suggesting that this could have been the cause of death is completely right. Yes there may have been other reasons but this is a very strong possibility. It's a hypothesis based on a number of facts. It's how science works
@kalaninuiakau
6 жыл бұрын
DSL996 can you please cite those examples? I am having trouble searching through the studies on google for toxins affecting milk in marine mammals. If the toxins in the mother's blood were at high enough levels, wouldn't the baby have been stillborn if the toxicity was enough to affect the milk? Implying that this tragedy was postpartum is less likely than the baby being stillborn.
@dsl996
6 жыл бұрын

I certainly wouldn't argue against making the oceans cleaner but there's no evidence this whale died of poisoning from pollution. Attenborough says that, "It's possible that her calf may have been poisoned by her own contaminated milk." It's also possible it was a stillborn from natural causes, it was attacked by another predator (notice there's a gaping hole on it's belly), or it died from another cause. The cutaway to the plastic debris is probably from another area of the world altogether and notice how there's only sea foam and open water on the surface in the whale footage? I love the cinematography of Blue Planet but there are a an increasing amount of anecdotes about animals dying from man-made causes without citing any specific evidence. I'm not saying Dave's wrong, he doesn't justify that he's right. This is drama, not science.
@jheeshin621
2 жыл бұрын
What about when Attenborough said that "In top predators like these, industrial chemicals can build up to lethal levels"? Then, what if the gaping hole in its belly was because of decomposition? Have you seen reports of areas in the ocean that are so polluted, whales and dolphins do not reproduce successfully?
