Moral of the story: Don't dare to call yourself a feminist or a mother if you are not vegan.

So glad she made the realisation of the cruelty inherent in dairy farming. Thank you! ❤

This made me cry. My heart sinks each time I pass by a local dairy farm here. You only ever get to see the male calves that are teathered to their crates to limit their movement so they can use them for veal. Their mothers are in a building next to them, able to hear their mothers bellowing out for them, but their agonizing plea is ignored. Mothers never get to leave the building except when their bodies can no longer handle the abuse and are taken to slaughter. Vast fields surround the farm, but that is used for growing feed. To imagine being born into a prison, freedom just out of reach, being raped and used for the will of others, knowing your child is close by, but only for a short while before being taken to be killed. That is torture of the worst kind. An agonizing life of grief and suffering with no relief. I would not wish that on my worst enemy, but yet society thinks it is acceptable. I am ashamed of who I was and the torment that I participated in as a consumer. I think about each animal that I am responsible for in my mind and can see their eyes looking back at me, asking for my help. Just to give a small amount of compassion and choose something different. Seeing vigils for cows and pigs, and seeing the terror and pain in their eyes is one of the most disturbing things I have seen. Their eyes haunt my soul to its core and there is no escape from being witness to their suffering. It can never be unseen. It took a little pig who needed a home to open my eyes. She had been teased at her previous home and had a bit of a biting issue, but me and my roommate were willing to work with her and find her a good home. One morning I was awoken to the gentle nudge of her velvety soft snout on my head and a whispering grunt. It was that moment I realized we found her home. I stopped eating pork. Then after doing some research and learning the truth, I stopped eating all meat. Then I saw videos of mother cows chasing after their children and my heart broke. I was vegan and when compared to the suffering of all those for my pleasure, it was perhaps the easiest thing I have ever done. To all of those gentle animals who suffered at my behest, I am sorry. This heavy burden I will always carry and do so willingly. I will do my best to prevent future suffering and harm. I'm sorry.

I was so touched by your story and feel total empathy for your distress. I admire and respect people who care enough to actually change the way they live and eat. I used to think it was ok to eat fish, but I saw a video of a large tank of Gropers watching one of their friends being chopped up and the sense of sadness was so intense (the video was an experiment to see if they would react), I now have a new respect for all sea creatures now and don’t eat any creature, even shell fish. Like many Vegans, I still get snide criticisms about “still eating rabbit food”, but I’m the healthiest person in my family and I’m proud to say I’m a Vegan. Best wishes😊

@Robert Hodge If you didn't know any better at the time, why feel shame? There's a difference between being naive and becoming aware of something cruel and wrong yet continuing to participate in it.

I'm plant based. But I think if a family had a farm like the old days where animals roamed, ate grass and a little milk was taken each day, it woukd be very different from what we have today. Don't know how people can kill for their dogs and cats, yet feel nothing for the suffering of farm animals 🙁😯😔

You feel nothing for the suffering of farm animals if you think it's okay to steal milk from them and then send them to slaughter when you're done using and exploiting them. So just stop with the deflecting onto "pets," you're not fooling anybody.
