The op is correct. This is clearly rejection by maternal bulbul. The father bulbul is the experienced parent, mother isn't. Not only did mom build an inadequate nest in an unusual spot, but it was not strong enough or correctly built either. Thus it continued to tilt and contributed to this sad outcome. The mother is obviously frustrated while feeding. The babies are weak and not properly grasping her beak to signal get to let the food go. So she repeats the cycle and gets further frustrated. Finally she eats the food intended for the babies. The issue is further compounded by mom feeding insects that were way too large for these babies. This further created frustration for mom. That's a lack of experience on mom's behalf. However, the father bulbul feeds without issues. Sadly the mother bulbul eventually kicks babies from the nest TWICE. That's no accident twice. Clear rejection due to failure to thrive because of inexperienced mother. The poor father bulbul returns with food to an empty nest. He's clearly confused why the babies aren't there. The op tried to intervene and replace the babies after the first rejection. Op had hope it was accidental. It was not an accident. Mother kicks the babies out of the nest a second time. She made her decision clear. Larger birds will throw a rejected baby out with their beaks. These birds are much smaller, with tiny beaks, thus they'll kick the rejected babies out of the nest with their feet. The action is obvious. If there was any doubt she repeats the process of kicking them backwards out of the nest. It's very intentional. They were failing to thrive due to insufficient feedings by mom. Dad was great, he did everything right. As the babies got weaker from mom's starvation, so did their ability to close their beaks around mom's beak. So inexperienced Mom didn't know to let the food go. As this communication issue continued, the babies further declined and weakened. Without Dad they'd have declined much sooner. Finally the babies were so weak and close to death she just rejected them from the nest. It's nature, it's imprinted within these birds to reject offspring that aren't strong enough to thrive and survive. It ensures the species has the best genetics. The weak are culled, rejected, or die. The strong and best genetics thrive and survive to reproduce. There's no point wasting time and resources on babies that aren't thriving. It's a natural act, there's no malice or evil intent. It's sad, but it's how nature ensures the best genetics are passed on and the weaker or defective ones aren't. Even if the weakness or issues we're caused by the parent themselves. It's sad. It's how nature works.

While one was feeding well and the chicks were eating, the other was either not letting go the food or the food she put was too big to swallow (this is what I observed, perhaps someone can explain) Also the first chick looked fine while the 2nd one was mostly lying on its back.

Chicks fell out twice and were put back and fell out again. The nest is practically vertical so who ever can film it all. Shame on whoever did this just to film babies, they killed those chicks by interfering with the slant of the nest.

You captured excellent footage of parent birds caring for two chicks. However, in careful review, it appears that the parent was providing equal care to both chicks, but most importantly, there's no evidence of intentional ejection by the parent. The chick was lying on the rim of a nest with an increasingly slanted incline, and when the parent moved, the chick laying on the rim accidentally slipped out of the nest. This was not intentional ejection at all, and the parent bird's behavior is consistent with that fact. It's unfortunate, but does happen, and the parent would not have been able to retrieve that youngster back to the nest, though would have been able to care for it wherever it fell. Another problem is your titling and description, even if intentional ejection had been the case. These birds *cannot* smell "weakness." Birds have somewhat limited olfactory senses, but one ability they actually do possess is sensing chemical signatures of *predatory* species nearby. Avians in taxonomy Family Cathartidae, which includes vulture and condor, have the additional documented ability of olfactory sense to detect carrion while kettling, even thousands of feet up in the air, and miles from a carcass. But, that's not at all what's happening here in this video, and I'm certain these are not vultures, but uncertain if or which species of bulbul this may be. You've mischaracterized a behavior, claiming the parent can "smell fear." The parent can't because avians simply don't possess that ability. *Therefore, your clip title and the claims made are wholly inaccurate and incorrect.* If this actually had been a case of intentional ejection, which it wasn't, that would be an example of adaptive behaviors such as possible parasitism by another avian species, environmental quality impact on selective neglect or rejection by parents of chicks (relative abundance of food), reproductive "insurance," where a second chick is only cared for till/if the oldest chick survives, is healthy, and begins normal growth (at which time the second chick is ignored), or because a chick displays sickly/injured condition after hatching, wherein parents will then passively ignore or remove the chick. So again, this was an accidental loss of a chick, and parent birds do not "smell" fear, weakness, nor anything else of the kind. There is so much interesting content on YT which is mislabeled, inaccurately titled, and misrepresented, all because the person posting it isn't knowledgeable, didn't make an effort to properly describe the content, or does so, knowingly, for attention or revenue. *STOP DOING THAT.* Now that you've been provided with accurate information, you have an obligation to update the title and description. Anything else isn't acceptable. Failing to properly label and describe, especially after it's been provided, is promoting inaccurate or fake information. Please don't do that.

Why is the nest held up by twine ? This nest was built by a human on purpose for the birds to fall out. Clearly the nest is made of twine, rigged up in a tree.
It is not harshness of nature but the nest was made with those strings on the first place to tilt towards the camera for us to see instead of making it level for the birds and chicks.

It could be pesticide in their food chain, nothing is to be discarded in this video, those babies look weak but that's not the case, to me is that they didn't grow as fast as they should, the bigger the stronger.

Alot of splicing here, I think if we saw the entire situation we would see the chics not getting enough heat from mom bc dad isn't bringing her food that she needs to stay strong, cow birds are usually just awful parents, but mom is trying here but, heat is more important than food at this stage and there's no dad to help with that so mom let's her chics get too cold too often and that is why they're so weak

she positively did push them out on purpose. If you watch, she lays on them, pushes them with her feet, looks back, and when they are hanging on, she pushes until they are gone. At one point I was wondering why she bought that huge bug and tried to choke them to death.

I remember hearing you're not supposed to handle baby birds, eggs, or their best due to transferring the smell of human to them. This would cause the mother bird to abandon her young and nest or something. I can't remember if this is true or not, but reading this comment made me think of it lol

Seems like the nest has been rearranged and the bird won't never build or make her nest in that way. Nature itself doesn't entertain any intruders. Some wild birds never hatches the egg if we touch the eggs or nest.
