As a mechan takeical engineer I can say that a lot of that smoothness in the landing should be contributed to the engineers that designed the ramps and the distance and the angles for the takeoff and landing ramp. The smoothness especially of the landing is all engineering.

Robbie Maddison is the guy on the dirtbike. Same guy who did the world's first tandem backflip at Herning Supercross in Denmark. He came back at Herning smx and did worlds first 3 person backflip 1 or 2 year after. Both time the passengers was picked random from a box with the names of random people from crowd that had signed up for it. Was there both time. RIP to our hometown hero Alex Harvell. He had broke the world record dirt to dirt jump in Richland Washington back in 2013. Years later was going for another record jump and came up short, was air lifted out and passed away. Was from a small town no one has ever heard of, Ephrata Washington, was a great guy, damn good rider, a father and a husband.

Yeah it was gnarly, Mitch at pro circuit made him a screamer engine. Some dudes in this comment section thinks he did these long distance jump and landed in a foam pit as they do when they make new tricks…. Yeah sure jump 322 feet and land in a foam pit and you would literally be dead aswell.. Robbie did each and every jump in various practice by moving ramps to find comfort and timing, no foam pit just him balls out!

There were no extra safety precautions for his practice runs, I think he just wanted to hit the ramp with no noise or pressure, just to see how it felt. If I'm not mistaken I believe he was wearing a parachute for each run... It's insane to think that a parachute is needed for a hit on a dirt bike.

@@andygaskin6254That 5" of travel that was the harley's suspension on the Harly was back breaking. You watch when Evel lands he often bounced (sometimes completely off the bike). There is no bounce on the modern bikes.

At 21 years of age I was carrying a M-16 walking in a rice pattie in East Asia. At 25 years of age I was a Public Safety Officer. At 35 I tried my hands at being an Emergency Medical Technician. I ended up going back into the military till I retired. At 65 years of age I did a tandem jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I always thought I had the intestinal fortitude to do things most men wouldn't do.. BUT to be honest with myself. These young men who do stunts, race cars, ride bulls and just do crazy things that could end their lives in a instant. I SALUTE them. God speed and live the dream. You only live once.

At 102 mph it was probably 3.7 mph (totally guessing)faster on a CR500 than Robbie Madison needed to clear 346ft. but what an absolutely beautiful jump by him!!! The way he tilted the bike to the exact angle needed to plant both wheels on the ramp at almost the same time was legendary!

@@Seanthedon72 I have no idea where on the ramp they have the end point that gave them 346 ft. But if it’s at the start of the ramp then add about 20 additional feet. The bike may have traveled @366ft. again only if the end point is at the start of the ramp. This is really much ado about nothing because there are just to many unknown variables (speed of the bike, weight of the bike & rider, 346ft actual start & end locations, etc.)to come up with all the math that would make this a fun physics project!

As an old man that used to ride motocross back in the 70s early 80s that was so beautiful to watch.. his control of breaking the back of the front tire to steer himself through the air and not turn upside down to steady himself. It was precision and it was impressive not everybody can do that matter fact hardly anybody can do that.

Although if you remember Evil Kenevil &then Dale Buggins back in the 60's and 70's doing pretty much the same thing here, even though the bikes back then might not have been so lightweight with today's Featherweight 'si n comparison set the standards for today's generation to better themselves against.

Evel Kneivel would be proud of what he started. He did it on a heavy Harley with 3 inches of travel on both ends and the heart of a champion. Even when the odds were that he'd crash spectacularly he still went for it. He motivated us kids to put playing cards in our spokes and build wooden ramps and have our friends volunteer to lay down in the alley in front of the jump to see if we could clear them. The good old days.

This guy did this in 2000, crashed is brains out LITERALLY! ......broke every bone in his body, had to re learn to talk. Did 24 years of Physical rehabilitation, walked out of the hospital this morning, hopped on his bike...tried the same jump again and made it!!!

The success of that jump was made possible by the fact that he was traveling fast enough to overshoot the landing if he didn't correct it while in the air. That's the beauty of going too fast. You can correct it in the air. You can't go faster once you're in the air

The small things are what makes this even more impressive. It’s not just the utter madness of doing that on a cr500 as that into itself is impressive as anything. It’s the small things, the precision, the perfect timing on getting the bike in position. He made all of it look so damn easy.

@palermothegoalgod-wd2wp the spinning rear tire and chain have rotating mass which has kinetic energy, so when that rotating mass has the brakes applied the bikes front end goes down.

My former Pro Motocross friend told me that everything accomplished in mid air is done with your handlebars&footpegs.Even those quick moves where your tires are above you(Cross up's?).Dirtbikes;My childhood obsession!

Wheel rotation. If you tap the rear brake it stops the rear tire from spinning and brings the front end down.

I was there when Ryan Capes did 310ft. Was incredible. Its almost like these guys are flying the bike with the brake and throttle. Was awesome to see.

Evel Kenivel crashed alot but was awesome. I even had his toy motorcycle and him along with my Billy the Kid pistol and wallet in the mid 70s 😂
