I have used the Chinese rip-offs for years. True, they are not machined to the tolerances of the Europeans. However, those of us who ride cheap bikes, they are good enough at 1/3 the price or less. Moreover, many of those high-priced parts are most likely produced in China at the same factory. anyway. You have to factor that in when you buy these knock-offs. Just retorque them occasionally and they are good enough. Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.

I don't understand. The Wunderlich ones cost 95 pounds, while the other ones cost 16 pounds. Obviously they will be of inferior quality, since the difference in price is sixfold. Are you trying to state the obvious here ? Also, Amazon is a private corporation, operated for profit. If they see an opportunity to make more money, they will take it.

You have not convinced me. Could you please explain what could possibly go wrong with the chinese bar risers? Assuming of course that you do not crash or have an overloaded bike and have a heavy tipover.. I am all for safety myself. I have survived 700,000 miles behind bars so far…I would not expect a set of bar risers to survive a 60 mile an hour head on collision with an oncomming car or wall.. please don’t be offended by this. But, I have owned a BMW K 1200 LT. My first and last BMW. I was very disappointed with how flawed that motorcycle was. I won’t go into everything, I will run out of room here. it poured oil smoke on restart if I parked it on the side stand, the windshield was horribly distorted, it had that weird front end that no one else in the industry has even attempted to copy, and having had one, I can understand why. Final drives failing, on and on.. ,But, having been a motorcycle mechanic at five different dealerships, having owned many dozens of motorcycles, from rds to tz250s to goldwings, all but 8 of them have been Japanese..(4-moto guzzi’s-gasgas- famtic-beta--and that bmw).. I could not help but notice that many of the BMW crowd are name dropping snobs.. They are prejudice.they will pay double for things like motorcycle jackets, gloves, boots, many tines made by the same manufacturer, they will pay $4500,(2010 price) to have the clutch and slave cylinder changed ( because the slave cylinder leaked)in their BMW K bike. They will pay $750 to have the clutch and brake fluid changed(2010 price..)They will pay outrageous to me prices for parts & accessories, IF, it says BMW on it. It Hass to say BMW on it for that wine and cheese crowd …they seem to enjoy being shook by the ankles.. The more it hurts-the more they like it… not me- example--- I have had two deer collisions while riding my motorcycles. One at 35 miles an hour. Deer ran right into the side of my Honda pacific coast on my daily commute. I did not go down, I fixed it myself, it cost me less than $1000 in used ebay parts…One of the things that happened in that collision. The mirrors both popped out of their sockets-BUT- they were tethered, so I just had to use a Phillips screwdriver to reattach them…. two years later.on my BMW K 1200 LT. I had a 70 mile an hour head on collision with a Deers rib cage. Again, they just run right out you can’t even see them until it’s over. I did not go down that time either. I coasted to a stop with no lights in the dark. $5500 damage..Here’s the difference- both mirrors that are almost identical to the same design mirrors as on the Pacific coast motorcycle that I had the collision with a deer on, both mirrors on the BMW flew off straight to China, BECAUSE- they were not tethered. The kick in the balls was, those mirrors were $492 each(2010 price) they were not motorized remotely controlled mirrors, they were not heated mirrors. But they did say “BMW”………why so much??why no teathers???Two other BMW k1200lt owners that I know said, their mirrors just fall off sometimes all by themselves..why??? I detect a tinge of that familiar attitude in your presentation here. so, could you please explain to me how a set of Chinese made bar risers being used on your “BMW “are a threat to your life more than simply riding a motorcycle is a threat? I am not looking to exchange insults, I don’t mean to be excessively condescending, but it just seems to me that people who drink the “BMW” koolaid, judge things according to label & price first.. I don’t know if you have seen the tv series “ long way around” with Ewan Mcgregor and Charlie Boorman.. they rode BMW GS motorcycles across Europe and Asia, across North America, and back to England.. during that series, ewan kept saying that these were the wrong cycles for this trip-- Then-- one of the machines had a brake system complete failure.. both front and rear brakes could not made to work, even with factory techs advising them by phone…they ended up finding someone in the middle of Mongolia that could transport that broke down BMW to a train station, where they shipped that motorcycle back to England because it could not even be jury rigged to limp out of there. that was quite a public relations disaster for BMW.... any other brand of motorcycle in the history of the universe could have been modified to limp on, except for a BMW….. that is also related to why in 2010, a simple brake fluid change at a BMW dealer cost $750. If you get air in the system, the complete system front and rear shuts down and you have to transport the vehicle to the dealer, where I assume they flush the system and re-boot the computer with the very secret codes that only BMW dealers have.. I did my own brake and clutch fluid changes with no problem. It cost me less than $10. But I did have to buy a “special BMW tool” To bleed the slave cylinder. I know a BMW dealership auto mechanic. I told him about the special tool I had to buy. He said BMWs are made that way. You have to marry the dealer to do even some basic maintenance chores, because only the dealer has all the tools required.. it guarantees business for the dealers service department.. So to end my long winded rant. I apologize for that but not wholeheartedly.Could you please explain to me, how a bar riser made in China is a threat to your life?

Jody, thanks very much for your comments. It’s clear you’ve had far more experience in the motorcycle world than I. For me, my scathing review mainly boils down to inferior quality in materials, but also the lack of precision in the actual machining of the part. Ergo, they run a higher risk of failing than I’m prepared to take. FYI I have a brother who is a mechanic, and another brother with a phd in chemistry. Both of whom I value their input. Being on the north side of 50, I’ve had my fair share of both overpriced items, and cheap ones. Both bike, and non bike, related. At the end of the day, everything is relative. There are some things that are, I believe, just worth paying extra for. I’m not a “that’ll do” kind of person. Ride safe buddy. Thanks again, and happy new year to you and yours. 🏍✌️

I must say, I completely agree with Jody. I watched the video and was honestly lost for words. I value safety too, if you were discussing brake levers or something like that I could maybe..maybe.. understand but you'd need a strong argument and demonstrable evidence, but I'll put my neck on the line (literally!) and say there's no way those cheaper bar risers are any less safe than the expensive ones. I'm not even convinced the machining is as bad as you make out, they didn't seem to be lined up properly side by side. Each to their own, that's fine, but that's kind of the issue though isn't it, it's not really each to their own in today's world with people so easily influenced by video's like this. So many factors at play here, and don't take this the wrong way, I wish your youtube channel every success but let's be honest, youtubers, like politicians, are likely to say what they think people want to hear.... China bashing being the popular thing doesn't help. Not the case with this example but I wish people would realise that most of their 'branded' stuff is probably made in China, possibly in the same factory. Maybe a fairer comparison would be to compare something that costs the same, then see the quality difference. Perhaps some £95 Chinese bar risers would be far far superior quality than the 'good' ones you showed here. Well anyway, each to their own as I say, just don't accept everything you hear, form your own opinions. Oh and a special thanks to Ebay, Amazon and especially Aliexpress for providing me with options, excellent value for money, reasonable quality and safe too. Right I'm off to buy my cheap bar risers now. Ride safe everyone! Remember it's YOU that will keep you safe, no matter how expensive the parts you buy.

I'll just mention 3 reason why you should NOT buy from the Chinese. Engineering and intellectual theft. Companies spend a lot of money to develop quality and well fitting parts. Don't encourage thieves to continue their disgusting practices. I buy American, European, Australian and Japanese products. Alloy selection, CNC tolerances and quality of threads. The threads and strong alloy for the application is extremely important. Your life is worth more than a few dollars saved on a crappy component. Finally, Quality control and customer service. Reputable companies stand behind their product and will correct any issues. Good luck chasing some Eggroll eating MF and expecting him to solve your problems caused by their copycat practices. Buy American. Give the business to your fellow Americans or our Allies in Europe and Asia. The Chinese are NOT our friends.

Everyone knows what rubbish cheap Chinese stuff is but people continue to buy it. Where safety is concerned this is a shocking situation. I am in the fortunate position of being able to make my own risers when necessary and I make them in the correct grade alloys and use the correct High Tensile Allen bolts. High quality alloys necessary for this type of thing is very expensive and it is reflected in the finished product prices. Most of the good product of this type is made in Germany currently. I would love to hear of a UK manufacturer.
