Man, you saved me more than USD$ 300 (which is what it would cost a fuel pump down here). Did exactly what you did here and put back the pump and boom! pumping. Thank you very much

Great. Yea as you saw it didn’t work for me more than a few minutes, but it can work. Keep your eye on it. Cheers.

So it's solenoid controlled inlet/outlet pump and it does not have any motor or rotor in it? Electric version of ordinary vacuum line controlled inlet/outlet pump? So the solenoid moves the axle up'n down while there's some interior moving also so fuel goes in and movement of returning parts will force the fuel to go out with more pressure?

Think so yes. Magnetic solenoid type.

That's moving the diaphragm. There is no revolving spindle. It's a diaphragm and valves

The last Shadow I worked on had a bad fuel pump, so instead of ordering a new one (they're junk anyway) I got a low pressure automotive pump from an auto parts store (Auto Zone I think) and it works perfect. It was a dumb idea to have a pump in these bikes anyway. Poor engineering. Should be gravity fed anyway.

I read that solution on a forum, I believe someone got one at O’Rileys, I forgot the brand, like a 2-3 psi unit. I considered that but I had already done extensive rework of the hoses and such because all but one of the molded lines (and they’re all molded form fitting) was available new. To use another pump would have meant even more massaging the setup. Thanks for watching and commenting.

don't remember. Just use the service manual wiring diagram for your bike and you can trace it.

Yea, I did replace it. Tried to find a higher quality one, but this junk coming out of China is depressing. Thanks for watching.

@@pappydanny58 I’d much rather do that however, NLA for this bike. Same deal for my VFR. I’d love to replace that pump with an OEM.

A well designed motorcycle should not have any fuel pump. Gravity always works. Don't buy any motorcycle with a fuel pump or return it to the dealership for a refund. The Honda Shadow apparently is a badly designed motorcycle. It looks pretty, but is not user maintainable.

Many bikes used fuel pumps. Gravity won’t work when the tank discharge is lower than the carbs. These fuel pumps on Hondas especially will last forever if the thing isn’t left sitting and corroding. This particular bike that used this pump sat 25 years.
