Hitting the roads for the best UK motorcycle touring routes available to us, we chose Calimoto to lead the way. Over four days, it took us through England and Wales. What roads will we ride? Did we have problems? Did our motorcycle touring companion, Calimoto, pick the best biking roads?
It’s been nearly two years since the three amigos took to the roads. Covid, commitments and shift patterns made it challenging to get together. So, with four days to hand, we threw our bags into our motorcycle top boxes, attached our phones to our Quad Locks, hit a random destination then let Calimoto find the best biking roads for our motorcycles. What did it conjure up?
Grab a beer, sit back and enjoy the trip. There were certainly a few surprises along the way as well as a top touring tip.
By the way, we have not been paid or sponsored by product manufacturers mentioned in the video. Each of us are full paid-up subscribers to Calimoto.

Where did we go?
Day one: From our home town in Sussex, our first port of call was Loomies, in West Meon adjacent to the A272 for a bit of brekkie. From there we pointed our motorbikes in the direction of Monmouth but stopped in Chepstow in Wales. After a bite to eat, and booking our night’s stay in a Premier Inn, it was onwards up the A470 and A483 to Oswestry.
Day two: couldn’t even start the bike. Flat battery, or was it? Losing about half an hour to source jump leads, we tried to buy time and hit the motorways to our intended target: Wyndrose Pass and Hardknott Pass in the Lake District. Needing fuel on the way, more starting problems meant diverting to Warrington where Moto Bike were too kind to assist. Losing more time, we were still determined to ride the roads of the Lake District and met some amazing scenery and challenging roads. Stopping to refuel, we selected our second destination of the day to Huddersfield with another room booked with Premier Inn.
Day three: From Huddersfield it would be destination Swindon - a shorter day than usual so we could watch a rather important football match between England and Germany. 200 miles through Yorkshire, Peak District, Derbyshire Dales, Lincolnshire and Gloucestershire arriving at Premier Inn with a pub closed to customers because their walk-in freezer wasn’t working. With only half hour until kick off, it was tinnies and Pringles in the room being the order of the day.
Day four: we visited Arlington Row, Bourton-on-the-Water and Cheddar Gorge but one of our problem-free motorbikes came to an end with brake and clutch issues limiting the routes we could take. Still, plenty of roads to be enjoyed, the problems didn't stop us.
Did Calimoto pull out some amazing roads? We'll let you be the judge of that. ;)

Calimoto is the perfect touring companion. Pick your destination, hit start and let it find the best roads for you. For the most part, the roads were empty, good winding roads with banter along the way. We get to see all the statistics after the ride too. Motorcycle touring has come a long way in recent years.
