can you use adventure touring dual purpose tires on a street bike (we have horrible roads where i live) like the Metzeler Tourance? what kind of dual sport tires can i use if i have 110/70 17 and 150/70 17 sizing on my bike.
@motorcyclesuperstore
9 жыл бұрын
Marce Z Yes, it is possible to use ADV/DS tires on your street bike. Basically if you can find a matching size then it will work. However, I say this with a big dose of caution. You need to be mindful of speed and load ratings. If you utilize a tire that has lower ratings than your machine is designed for, tire troubles and potential harm are on the horizon. The good news is that many tires are rated far above what "normal" daily riding calls for. If the replacement tires are capable of handling the type of riding that you do on a regular basis, then it's up to you to make that decision. I know a guy who runs a 19-inch rear motocross tires on his BMW GS1200 front wheel because it fits. He loves it. But obviously it's a great example of how there needs to be some serious common sense and caution when making your tire choices. Here is a link to our Adventure/Dual Sport tires page. Use the Tire Finder at the top, punch in your sizes and it will give you all the options available. www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1039091/d/adventure-touring-tires Good luck. - jc

I hate that my bike has very few options for a 70/30 or 60/40 tires ! I hate that there are very few tires left in stock and i also hate that i have to pay for 340€ for tires that will last 2-2,5 years !! At my size (160/60/17) are the pirelli mt 60 Are there any other options in this category, since they're at 340€ the set ?!!

@motorcyclesuperstore
9 жыл бұрын
glitterymist It depends on what type of terrain you are riding. Generally speaking 12-14 psi in the rear is a good range and 12-18 psi in the front. You'll want to go with higher psi for high-speed or rocky terrain to help prevent flats and damaged rims. There is a bit of personal feel as well. I run 12 psi front and rear for my bikes when I ride woods or MX. - jc

talking about how a tire performs in the wet, though its true more grooves will channel more water but you hv lesser contact patch on the road which gives lesser grip and the compound plays a part too, like silica. Angel GT has 100% silica in the front if im not mistaken. I used to ride on a tire with hell of a grooves on it, very gud in the dry i can lean all the way down but very poor in the wet. everytime i brake the wheel starts to lock and also i dont inflate my tyre according to the sidewall, usually i'll go 2psi lower than recomended for more contact patch.

MapleBalls Agreed. We do mention in the video that it's realistically more dirt biased. However, most websites, ours included, tend to call anything this aggressive a 50/50. It's just an informal industry standard. Not necessarily a good one, imo. - jc

+Zaid Sern What tires are you currently running?. Most 90/10 street/track sport bike tires are primarily geared towards performance and work well. Michelin Pilot Power 3, Pirelli Diablo Rosso II, Metzeler Sportech RR and the Dunlop Sportmax Q3 are our favorites. Hope this helps! - RH

This Video is very informative! Thank you so much. 1 question though, is it wise to combine a different streets bike tire for the front and back? For instance, the back tire is leaning towards mileage for everyday use while the front tire focuses more on grip (softer rubber but with lots of groves for wet performance). Will this different combination of different tires helps balance up performance during wet and dry performance?

If you had a 130/70/17 rear tyre; can you pick any tyre which fits the 17 inch rim providing it doesnt hit your swingarm if you are looking ti go up insize eg 190/65/17 would fit and not come into contact with the swingarm would this be okay or is there other information why you wouldnt want to do this?
@motorcyclesuperstore
9 жыл бұрын
Great question, luke cooper. Watching for clearance issues is definitely one of the concerns. This goes for the swingarm and anything else that might come into contact such as a mudguard or license plate. You will also want to verify that the wider tire will fit on your rim width. It's possible that the tire will not seat properly. You can look for that information on tire manufacturer websites. Also, the speed rating and load index must be equal or higher than your stock tire. Hope that helps, now go big or go home! - jc

Most tire manufacturers will list the rim size range that needs to be used with a particular sized tire. You cannot go silly wide on a narrow rim because that changes the tire tread profile. The next time you are in a shop, grab a tire and squeeze the rim beads together an inch narrower than the rim size that tire is meant for. You'll notice the edges of the tread are near vertical and end up being more part of the sidewall than the tread. The end result is you never get to use the tire over the full tread width.
@raybrensike42

Supposedly engineers were supposed to do their work and find what size tires work best on your machine, so think about that before you go too far off what it came with when it was new.

+Saint PaintBall You definitely want to stick with the stock 80/100-21 and 100/90-19 tires. The Michelin AC10 Enduro MX tires are off-road capable, and DOT approved. If you want an aggressive, street legal tire, the Kenda 760 track master 2 are DOT approved but are very off-road oriented. Unfortunately we don't ship tires to the UK, but I hope this helps - RH
