Just a bit of advice - motorhomes, motor caravans, and caravans in general are achieving abnormally high prices because of a new generation of COVID-19 staycationers. So you will be buying at the top of the market right now. If you can afford to wait a few years, it might be an idea to do so. Also, many people are doing home conversions of second hand vans. Which a dealer - such as in this video - will not touch with a barge pole. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach to any non-professional conversion. Just saying.

really very interesting. Really cant believe how expensive some are. Especially paying 50K for a van that does not even have a wash area or toilet. You would really have to like vanning to make it an attractive proposition for family holidays. The Trigano Tribute looked good for solo use on Photographic trips.

Campervans aren't just a 'starter van' or a 'good start to motorhoming'. I've had coachbuilts and A-class motorhomes from the likes or Niesmann & Bischoff, Carthago and Rapido, but have now downsized to a high-specification self-build campervan as with experience I now know exactly what I want (a good bed and U shaped lounge, a large shower and bathroom, and an excellent kitchen) and can have all of that in a 6.36m panel van conversion. The U shaped lounge in my campervan is much more comfortable than the lounges in either the Carthago or the Rapido when you want to really stretch out. I chose to self build to a factory standard as I couldn't buy anything from any manufacturer which didn't compromise on some area, without spending upwards of 70K on a custom build - and having looked around many vans, most of them are not that well put together.

@@TheMotorhomeMan it gives full height for the whole length of the van except the but over the front seats, and you don't have to worry (as much) about packing it away wet. I guess it just doesn't look as trendy and I suppose that you have to push the top up and then push out the side panels, so it's a two step process, whereas the trendy ones you just push it up and it's done.

I wouldn't buy any of them . It's much better and cheaper to convert your own panel van . The best are a Mercedes sprinter or a ford transit even a crafter all with a high roof . The problem with these factory built ones is they look clinical and cold with no home comforts. Best to build it yourself. With your own specifications.

@martinhaskell376

California is the factory built VW. You can easily spot them because the side door is on the right and they have the California name on the back. The price tag also confirms this, they are expensive but they hold their value. Anything else is an aftermarket conversion, much cheaper to buy but the quality of the conversion really depends on who did the conversion and when, and the price reflects this.

They may appear to have high profit margin for the dealer or manufacturer but that is not taking into account market demand. At the moment they are in high demand so prices stay high.
