I'm switching from a rooted original Moto X to an X4. The 6 GB, 64GB model for a little less than $160 was a deal I couldn't pass. Just ordered one & after watching this video, I think made a good choice! :)

Thanks for the review !! How did call quality compare between the two phones ? I've had some mic complaints on my Moto G5+.

In my experience it seemed like the Moto X is doing better with call quality than the Moto G series.

Both the X4 and G6 are optimized for Fi, and I disagree on bezel less phones being a fad. Screen to body ratio on smartphones is getting higher by the year.

Hi Jaime, Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Yes, the X4 and G6 are both on the Google Fi website listed as Google Fi ready phones. However, the point I was making in the video is that the Moto X4 performed much better than the G6 and was giving me a reliable signal in areas where the G6 gave me nothing. It had much better switching from WiFi to Cellular, and seemed to offer Google Fi VPN where the G6 did not offer VPN capabilities. So, for these reasons, I believe the X4 is better and more 'optimized' or capable of providing better service. Regarding the screen to bezel ratio increasing, yes it is true. However, it seems there is a point of diminishing returns. The bezel was unnecessarily large on the old MacBook Air computers and original iPads -- as an example. So, creating smaller devices with larger displays than their predecessors is a welcome advance - like with the iPhone X. Yet, creating hair-thin edges on devices can have some undesirable issues. For example, people will continue to use phone cases. Those cases generally come up and slightly over the edges to protect them. Depending on the case, this can make certain gestures more difficult. Having a bit of a bezel makes it much easier to perform gestures like swipe left or right from the edge. I work with some people who have ruggedized cases. It's almost impossible to drag icons from one screen to the next because the operating system doesn't sense that you're on the edge of the screen because the case almost blocks your finger from going there. So, that's a problem. Also, having a protective thin bumper area around a phone is a good way to help protect the screen from chips on the edges. The 'solution' that many phone companies offer, of having notch at the top where the cameras, earphone, and sensors go, results in an uneven bezel at the top and videos with a cutout in them. So, not ideal. I get what you're saying -- small devices with big screens and not so much unnecessary bezel area is good. I'm just saying that too little bezel can ultimately be bad.

Good review, I got the moto x 4 a month ago and use it as my daily phone. My note 9 is just so big so I use the note 9 every once in a while. I bought it from Google fi but haven't use their service much , I use tmobile. I wonder if Google fi would be better ..

Thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah, I use AT&T as my primary service, but find in many situations where my signal isn't great, the Google Fi signal is quite good. I use the Moto X as my secondary phone and as a hotspot when I'm unable to get my primary phone working. I would think that Google Fi would be better because it uses many available networks to connect. Here's a Google Fi link that has a $20 credit g.co/fi/r/CU1CCA

So do you recommend one over the other?
@resourcesforlife
5 жыл бұрын
I think I'd recommend the Moto X4 over the Moto G6. I've been using it now for a couple weeks and really like how it works. The cost wasn't much more. Regarding iPhone vs Android... For people who are heavily invested in Apple devices, having an Apple computer and iPad, for example, and if such a person is using the iCloud synchronization features for contacts, calendar, files, etc. and you want to use exclusive Apple apps like GarageBand and iMovie, Then it's nice to have an iPhone. However, if a person is mostly a user of Google services and likes what they offer, then an Android works well.

I've had no trouble so far. I just use the standard protective case that results in the rear camera being recessed instead of sticking out.

@@mahendraprasad8345 - Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to do better with the videos. One thing I need to work on is providing an introductory portion that's 2-3 minutes. Then people get the basics. Then go into more details for people who want it. Also, I might try working from an outline of points.
