Good review. Can you compare with the t60? I know there's a big price difference but is it worth the extra?? I'd really like to have vibrant alert though.
@MladenMijatov

One small correction. These and T60s (which I have) do have VOX which works over headset. Issue is however that Motorola flipped pin-out of the connector so if you plug in regular headphones your left earphone actually becomes a microphone. Unless you used OEM headset this could have tricked you. Sadly there are no adapters for these in the market so I have to resort to making my own. Still, a good radio and a good review.

Nice testing video. I want to buy 2 walkie talkies just for fun, but still quality. These are so far on the top of my list. If you could answer me a question: I read in a test from the TLKR T50 that you can also recharge the battery, using an AC power supply and still use them while they are recharging. Does this also apply to the T80?

Thanks for a great video review! Yours are the best on KZitem! Can I asks couple of questions? 1. Why did you buy these T80's over the T80 Extreme as the price difference isn't much. 2. You said the sound output (volume) is too low. Is it really far too low for normal use? 3. I read on Amazon reviews that the volume control can accidentally be turned down (or up) when putting inside a pocket. Did you have any problems like that? 4. I live in HK and the ones every shop owner wants to buy is the Amytel AW1010T or AW1080T (both come with headsets, clips etc). Have you had experience elf these? Cheers in advance!

Thanks. You can have up to 16 radios in one group. If you want more groups you will need to change to another channel but that could interfere other groups if you decided to initiate a channel change for your group. It's best to keep it simple and under 16

Good review, nice vid. I have watched a few of your other vids. I do have quite a few questions... - In the end you say "it's probably the best...". You've also tested the Cobra MT975 and the BaoFeng BF-888S. I'm also interested in the Motorola TLKR T60, the T80 Extreme and the Midland M24. From these, you stand by your statement that the T80 is the best? And what if you would give your opinion based on price-quality-ratio? - Compared to the T80 Extreme (besides it being more waterproof and having a solid backdoor), I read somewhere a difference in range (T80 had a larger/better range than the Extreme), do you know more on that, or is it the same? - You talked about VOX with headset. I didn't understand what you meant. If you use a headset, VOX doesn't work? Do you know why? I ask, because I want to walkie-talkie with a headset (probably this one: www.gadgetinfinity.com/ear-bone-vibration-speaker-microphone.html , is that even possible? (I also wonder how the PTT button on this one would work with gloves on.)) and wonder how that would work (or not work). I'm interested in your opinion (and others). It'll be my first set of (serious) walkie-talkies and I want to use them on my motorcycle and during my winter holidays on snowmobile (so always with helmet and headset). So any help and advise is welcome. Thanks!

Hi you question about the tlkr t80 extream range as far as I know they have the same range the only difference is that the t80 extream has a more water resistant back comes with a carry case and headsets. Your question about the headset and VOX it doesn't work and the only thing I can think of is that because the headset ptt is on your jacket its would move and keep on transmitting They are a good radio but sound is quiet.

Thanks a lot for your numerous reviews of different handsets. I've learned many things that I could not read from the online manuals myself (such as early rubbing off of keyboard markings, unit cannot stand on its' own, etc). I think you could still improve your reviews by including the range test which is critical for many would-be buyers. I know this is a difficult proposition because range vary greatly on different surroundings. But if you have a consistent environment ( e.g. same building and floor, same open field, etc) you could give a good idea of how different models and brands compare to each other. Or at least it would indicate susceptibility to wind noise and the audio quality during actual use. Just my two cents.

Thank you for making some of the best review vids on the web. But I have one question. Could you spend some more time on how the pmr actually sounds on air? Meaning the quality of their transmitted modulation, especially the audiolevel. Most pmr radios (nearly all) aren't loud enough compared to the tx-modulation of more professional equipment. If you could make a review on that subject you'll be the king of YT-reviews!! Thanks and 73's!

I know there are another packs of accesories but is that all? 2. Scanning. I didn't get well what U said so can T80 do a scan of all channels and all subchannels on every channel? Or is there any problem with? 3. VOX. Does it work with and without the speakers or only with/without? Once again sorry for my eng. It will means much to me if U can answer. 73!

@HandyRadio

Just get a couple of Retevis "24" radios. You can bump up the power to 2 watts, using the software, and the antenna is removable, so you can accommodate an SMA male antenna. 16 PMR channels pre-programmed. Make sure to knock off all the pre-programmed CTCSS & DCS tones in the software so that the radios can talk to all others. I have 2 of these units, and think they are excellent.

Hi there thanks for a very informative video. It spurred me on to buy a T80 Extreme twin pack. My problem is, I can't get room monitor mode to work, the instructions tell you what to do with one radio, but not the other. The first shows it's in room mode but I hear nothing from the other. Motorola support are worse than useless, a Polish girl there emailed me instructions she was reading from the previous model, when I asked if she could get someone senior to help she just told me to get info from a reseller. Like they are going to help me? NOT!! Please, please please help get this room mode working, it's the main reason I bought them.
@HandyRadio

semmyroundel set your 2 radios to the same channel and privacy code. Check if the radios will communicate with each other. Then go through the room monitor set up for one of them. Your room monitor radio (the transmitter) will not receive anything as you don't want to wake the baby up if someone else is transmitting on that channel. Don't do anything to the receiving radio. Make sure it's not due to out of range.

Hey, (newbie question follows): I bought 2 Baofeng UV-5E radios to use with my partner on a motorcycle trip in scotland. We are looking to use the free frequences in the UK as we do not want to pay for the licence, just yet! Can anyone suggest a setup - eg frequency/power setting etc, so that we are not annoying anyone with our chatter/ not breaking the law. (we wont be more than 200m apart at any time). Is this something that is viable, or are these radios not something to be used for such a trip. Ideally we would be the only people who can transmit or recieve on the frequency, so as not to annoy others who may be using the same frequency. Thanks in advance for your help! John
@MladenMijatov

John, sorry about the late reply. Did you enjoy your trip to Scotland? I've always wanted to make that trip myself on a bike but haven't got round to do it yet. Legally speaking you need at least the simple UK licence to use some of the VHF and UHF channels. They're not free channels like the PMR446 but at least you're not breaking the law. The reality is Ofcom doesn't have the man power to check and a lot of people who are unaware of the laws start using these radios. If it's not too late, most PMR446 radios should meet your distance requirement but you'll need to consider suitable headsets for your helmets.

Do you mean turning the room monitor off? Restarting the radio should clear it.

From where can I buy extra battery packs?
@FabricOfExistence
9 жыл бұрын
eBay has them. But you can also use regular AAA batteries, or AAA rechargeables. You can charge the AAAs in the device, by connecting a 9V DC power source, but you can't charge the AAAs in the charging station.

I want to connect 10 T80 together on a private channel so that no body from outside can hear the talks on the channel
@HandyRadio

Sorry there isn't such a thing as private channel. You won't hear radios from outside the group but your conversations are still heard by radios or scanners on the same frequency.

@MladenMijatov

PMR446 is 446MHz, and part of the specification states _no removable antenna_. UK does allow removable antenna as long as 0.5W transmission power is respected.

On the box it says about 10km but in real life with buildings, trees and hills you're looking at maybe 2km.
