Motorweek testing the 2002 EP3 Hatch, probably the most overlooked of all the Si Civics compared to the EGs, EM1 and later Si Civics. I don't own this video.
I've still got my 2005 si hatchback and it has been awesome. Two repairs in those 16 years - ac compressor went out and door lock actuator replaced. This thing is built like a tank, is a boat load of fun to drive and gets good gas mileage to boot (about 28mpg in mixed driving). Runs on regular gas too (the newer Si's need premium). It does rev high on the highway though. 4,000 rpm at 80. Really needs a 6th gear. Mine is at 143,000 miles and still runs and feels like a new car. Original clutch too. The rally style shifter is super easy to use and you don't even notice you are driving a stick after a while. I think this thing can go 300,000 or 400,000 miles without too much trouble. The build quality is stupendous on this vehicle.

The high revs are a Honda thing I guess. We also have a manual-trans CR-V ('04) that does the same revs, very close to the Si. Weird because auto-trans same-gen CR-V does a very relaxed 2,000rpm at seventy or thereabouts. I figure Honda does it this way because an auto obviously downshifts immediately when you need quick acceleration, but a manual doesn't - so the shorter top gear compensates by giving reasonable acceleration even without downshifting.

Aanndd 2 decades later, I now own a grey 2002 Honda Civic Si hatchback as my first car. I never expected it to have the same engine as a 2005 Honda CR-V (My parents bought it new in '05, and still own it as their own car today), yet have more punch... Must be from the ECU.

The S2000 family has been around since S600 and S800 from the early 70s and before civic. It certainly has been around long enough to build a fan base and become a cult classic. With that said, Civic is far more known worldwide especially here in the US where they dominated the import scene during their golden years in the 90s. I would love to have a EP3 and an S2000.

@@hondata974 I had an RSX, that I bought brand new when i graduated High school, my buddy bought the Civic Si and his was so underpowered compared to my RSX, they both had the same engine which puzzled me as to why his Civic was underpowered compared to my RSX, then I realized it was the transmission that had a major effect of power, boy did Honda make a mistake on that part in the Civic Si, I remember reading an article in car and driver back in 2002 that stated how Honda didn't want to make the Si to close to the RSX so it wouldn't compete against it's own brand, but what Honda didn't realise is that the majority of buyers of my age group and a little older could only afford the Honda and not the Acura, and that was a major regret and mistake on Hondas part, as the demographics showed that the Si was being purchased more than the Acura.

I own a 2005 Si and I like it. My first car was a 1991 Si, which is why I bought the EP3 - hoping for a little nostalgia. It is NOTHING like my old EF, but there are things to like. It has decent mid-range torque, the interior is comfortable and nice looking, good shifter placement and precision, the stock exhaust actually has a nice sporty tone. The problem with the car is there are fundamental weaknesses if you intend to modify the car, or track it at all. The high-mounted steering rack creates serious bump steer and positive camber at its limits: the geometry of the Mcpherson strut setup is problematic and hard to get right if you lower the car: the electronic steering doesn't have great feel: the ABS is really touchy. It's not my favorite Si, but it's not the worst. It's a fun to drive car, but it doesn't have the essence that past Si trim cars have.
