+scott9050 True. And sadly, it's still the best 2016 model available in the segment. It has the most torque, strongest frame, and best features in the segment and uses disc brakes unlike Toyota and steel cargo box, all topped off by the lowest base price in the segment. The Frontier was king in '98 and it's king in '16 too. I would like to see a redesign now though.

I have had the 98 since it was new. This spring I looked at the tires and decided they needed to be replaced. The tread was almost new, but they were over 6 years old. The odometer showed only 98 thousand. I have hardly driven it since I bought a 2008 Titan. It also has almost 100000 on it. I had the old tries replaced and drive it almost every day on my morning run to the convenience store. The only problem is the check engine light is on. I had the code read and it turned out to be the fuel tank breather filter. I decided the $200 to replace the filter and whatever that thingie that goes with it was more than I wanted to pay. So, I drive it anyway. Still does fine. It grew up sitting in front of the Indian River, which is brackish, so there is some rust showing several places, but it still runs good, the brakes work and the manual transmission works well. I replaced the front rotors and pads, but the read brakes are original. I've got a new set of drums and shoes for the rear, but I am too lazy to change them unless there is an issue stopping.

Paid $15,600, but traded it in about 8 months later on a Crew Cab V6 SE Frontier(automatic, full power, etc.). Crew Cab was only $4500 more and you got way more truck for the difference in price.

Wouldn't have happened. Ford, GM and Ram basically have a monopoly on the full size truck market. Titans and Tundra's are generally viewed as novelty trucks among st the hardcore consumer, and it also doesn't help that as already stated, Nissan basically let the Titan run from 2004 to 2015 before making any kind of meaningful changes to it, by that point Ford had not only seriously updated their powertrains and drivetrains but in 2015 they completely revised the F-150, The Silverado had gone through a life cycle and half with substantial updates from 2004 to 2015 and even Ram who is usually slower to update than Ford or GM was still a full build cycle ahead of the Titan by 2015, When Nissan did eventually get around to redesigning the Titan by the end of 2015, it was to little to late to really be a competitor. Their biggest gimmick at that time was the Titan XD which is just some kind of weird 1/2 ton 3/4 ton inbetweener. ' Same thing is basically happening with the Tundra right now. It's been basically the same truck since 2007 with only minor cosmetic updates here and there over the years in an attempt to try and keep it looking fresh. Toyota and Nissan profit more off of cars, that's why their cars are always up to date and on par with whatever the latest tech is, but their trucks don't bring in nearly as much profit for them as they do for a company like Ford.

The engine was missing on the #1 cylinder because of that, so I replaced it, and the valve cover gasket while I had it off, and from what I could tell, the camshaft lobes were nice and shiny, they were smooth, and didn't appear to have any abnormal wear! Even though this is about a truck, it's funny how most of these Japanese brands are still making their sedans now in the 21st Century when they were still making them back in the early 90's...but yet the American sedans are not afraid to change it up and put new models on the road while retiring older models. Then when a new Altima or Corolla comes out, they make it seem like it's brand new or that model only been around for a few years..

I have owned my 01 frontier xe for a few years now and am pretty pleased. The KA24de as we all know is a reliable staple in the nissan family. But yeah the jump seats nearly worthless.

+Ed Lightbourn I blew the KA motor in my 96 Altima SE that I purchased for $500, but then again I drove it for 4 years and put about 40k miles on it. Since it had a slow oil leak, I never bothered to change the oil I just topped it off when it was low. I put so much abuse on that car it was amazing the motor lasted so long.

The VG engines were tough also. I saw someone do that, with the oil in it, it ran for 12 minutes.. and it ran out of gas. Spewing steam out of the radiator, and going "bam, bam, bam"

I've got a 2000 with this body style, regular cab 2WD 5-speed 4-cylinder, base XE trim with no options besides Power steering and Air conditioning. In the 2000 model year only, they changed the gauge cluster and climate controls slightly, but the rest is the same. I've got the original steel wheels. These last forever. 147,000 miles. It's lived an easy life compared to some others I've seen.

Interesting. I daily a 99 Frontier single cab XE in red with the 4-cylinder and 5-speed manual. I'm third owner and it has 157,000 miles. Runs well, but needs front ball joints and a two inch lift. It's my baby now. The only bed protection I could find was a rubber bed mat from a 1987 Chevrolet El Camino.

I have a gold one I bought new in 99, I did some front end work last year replaced shocks this week ,I have replaced water pump and alternator and fan clutch, other than tune ups and oil changes that's it mechanically. Five sets of tires and five batteries. Standard cab Manuel, will haul ass, have outrun 350 v8s in quater mile, perfect gear ratio. 267,000 miles doesn't use a drop of oil.

That torsion bar suspension you could run over a cigarette butt on the road and tell the brand and whether it was a filter tip. I still liked the ride. 215/65 15 Michelin Hydro Edge tires would go over a hundred thousand miles.
