Just a quick note on that K100 motor. Simply put, it's the most reliable engine ever put on 2 wheels. maintain it properly( change oil and check the valve clearance) and you can get well over 500,000 miles out of them. It was so good that BMW quit making them after 13 years because they never broke down. Dealerships depend on the service shop, not sales.

My daily driver is an '87 325is, with 105,000 miles. I bought it from a collector in 1995. It's the same white color as the video. Absolutely love this car...

I dream of an alternate timeline where BMW M starts with a 325is when making the E30 M3. The first gen having a 2.5L DOHC straight 6 with around 200hp. I can only imagine how good that “M3” would have sounded, especially at full chat in the DTM race cars. I don’t think DTM limited cylinder count, just displacement. If that original car had the 6 speed out of the E34 M5 as well.

My first car I got when I was 19 was an '88 325is in a tan color. Great car and so smooth with that I6 engine, but then the timing belt boke at about 170K miles. I loved the ski bag that extended into the cabin and the heated seats.

The timing belt is supposed to be changed every 60k miles. So the fact that it made it to 170k is quite impressive.

I'm here reading the comments to decide if I should purchase a "Flying Brick" from Craigslist. I've determined that they all have: High mileage > 200,000 kms; K100 has an uneven vibration, that was solve with the K75; Very low maintenance required (shaft drive); The ABS usually has faults; They're awfully heavy (comparatively to "Sports bikes"); and Insurance is dirt cheap >25 years = collector plates.

Did South Africa get a 3 litre version of the E30?
@menaceIIsociety187
3 жыл бұрын
@@nathaniziah no but we did get our very own E30 333i which had a 3.2L motor. This was to supplement for the E30 M3 which sadly never reached our shores. This along with the 325iS Evo and Evo2 are legendary SA built cars. The average, decent examples are fetching R300k+ or about $20k+. And that's not even the mint, super neat ones which I've personally seen at double the price.

@@menaceIIsociety187 thanks for the info. I think I would personally prefer the 3.2l straight six over the 4 cylinder in the E30 M3, the torque from that motor must be awesome. What a car that 3.2 E30 must be, I owned a 1988 325 when I was 25. Never let me down and was utterly fantastic to drive, the 3.2 must be a sensation to drive.
@menaceIIsociety187

@@nathaniziah yes me too. I know the first M3 was an awesome car around the track but you can't beat that old school straight 6 in the 333i. It was a beast. Also, our 325iS had a reworked 2.7L engine from a 5 series and even by today's standards they perform quite well for such an old car.
